So what IS a trade you would take for Jrue Holiday?

I think we are all mostly of the mindset that Jrue is our guy and the league can GTFO. But anyone is tradable for the right price. So what IS your price? Reports today are that the Suns are willing to trade #6 for a veteran guard. And Suns insiders vehemently deny their interest in Lonzo Ball. Could it be Jrue they are after?
Would #6 and Mikal Bridges interest many here?

I’m only trading Jrue if it’s for a superstar and I’m putting all my chips in on a championship run and even then it’s still a very hard consideration. Jrue has stayed loyal to the franchise, become a face for New Orleans thru grit and defense. He’s a guy you keep until he retires due to the leadership and tenacity he brings everyday on the court and in the community.

Jrue is not "for sale" IMO. If the AD trade makes the team go in a direction where Jrue doesn't fit the timeline anymore, then you look for the best price. Personally I think you can get SGA+ 1-2 other assets like Shamet or a 1st from the Clippers for Jrue and that would be my baseline as I evaluated trades.

Wow, one year makes a ton of difference. I've never seen a guy become so beloved based off so little. Its amazing how easily our fans becomes devoted to someone..

A superstar on a rookie deal. That's it.
He has done everything right and people wonder if he's actually being loyal... lest we forget when this organization, in the midst of all their shittiness, handled Lauren Holiday's illness very well and Jrue certainly remembers that of the Bensons.
IMO Winning the lottery fast forwarded us through any potential scenario that you trade Jrue. I don't think there is one where he doesn't play a key role.

Lol three immediate down votes for an unlikely hypothetical to pass the time. Though I realize this isn’t a unique topic.
The real sticky point for me is I just don’t think teams will pony up for what Jrue is really worth. I think NBA circles all get how good he is, but for whatever reason (defense oriented etc) he’s not box office. I feel some of the similar packages you see thrown around for Beal should be mentioned for Jrue. For example, if the Lakers don’t get AD, they should be throwing their assets at Jrue. If I could get say, Lonzo and Ingram on top of the Celtics package for AD, I would at least hold the phone.

Jrue got his huge contract and continued to improve every aspect of his game. That's the type of work ethic I can get behind. Better than some superstars who quit on their team halfway through the year

Eh, it's been 2 years since Jrue has really stepped his game up. He's put up 20-7-5, while playing all NBA defense over these last two seasons.
That being said, I would trade him for SGA and Shamet, but I'm really high on both of them.

He's a top 5 two way player in the league and he's elevated his game to that level SINCE getting his contract, when most people were meh about it.
He was paid on potential then actually worked his arse off to earn it.

Props to him for that. But we have a distorted view of his value. We all see him as this super great side kick to Davis that was affordable and living up to his contract. When in fact he was the 18th highest paid player in the league this past season, making him by definition a franchise level player and he never came close to that level of production. He would be the highest paid guy on over a dozen teams. Many really believe he is more of a number 3 guy on a great team. He can be that, if both of the other guys are on cheap deals or a team is willing to go into the tax. The bright side is the contract gets cheaper as salaries sky rocket. But he was never a bargain and has profited like crazy being here..

Jrue was 16th in real plus minus, and 11th in the league in real plus minus wins. If the center of your argument is that Jrue isn’t that good, it’s going to fall short of the mark. Sure he would be the highest paid guy on some teams, and he would also be the best player on a dozen teams as well. He’s one the best players in the league, and probably one of the 5 best on ball defenders.
Now that being said, we only have two years of team control on him, and he’s a decade older than Zion. There are situations we should listen, but not because Jrue isn’t a great player.

He’s a great player to start a rebuild with. I’d have to get an All-Star or All-Star caliber type player back.

Why would we ever trade him then and why are we not winning with him?

We did win with him last year. We all know why we didn’t win enough this year.
And the whole premise of the thread is that we wouldn’t want to trade him unless it was above and beyond. And trying to figure out where that threshold is.

NBA contracts are so ridiculous now that looking at salaries is such a skewed way to determine a player's worth. I'm assuming 1-30 are what you consider franchise players......In that case Giannis and Kawhi would not even be "franchise level players". Carmelo is still considered one though by your thought process. Jrue is on a relatively cheap contract for his production and leadership.

If AD wasn't a bitch Jrue could be that next year
Posted on 6/3/19 at 1:12 pm to Jon1798
Jrue could fetch what the front end of an AD deal will end up commanding... good young player and pick more than likely
Jrue will never be worth more than what he’s worth right now. And if AD goes he has no value here long term.

Pretty close. I get that contracts are structured a certain way. But we still gave him the max. We couldn't have given him anymore. Those are the contracts you only give to "franchise" stars. Has he lived up to that? Ehh.. he's been alright. He does make more than Leonard and Giannis. Perhaps that isn't a fair comparison, but it's a fact. He is paid to be a star and he just isn't..

I would say he has some intangible value as a mentor to young players, but that probably doesn't outweigh the value that you could get in return if you were to trade him.
