Finally giving up on sky pencil hollies...they shrivel up and die within 2 years. My garden bed faces the West, so it gets the hot, afternoon sun unabated. Looking for something that can grow 8-10 ft tall and no wider than 2-3 feet in width. Looking at pencil point juniper. Any other suggestions?

That’s a seriously limited range for a plant. An Italian Cypress might work, but those aren’t always the most reliable either. Everything in the spruce or juniper department will be tough.

Maybe a large trimmed up Slow grower but could be kept at a consistent height and width with proper care

Sky pencils are shite. No one should be using them here.

That would be my suggestion, the spiral or pencil, but their bush gets really out of hand if you dont prune regularly.

Depends on if it’s available in your area but a Scarlet’s Peak Yaupon Holly.

Your location, it’s too hot and humid for sky pencil and especially facing west.
