arnsparger couldve done what saban did, but we did not want to upgrade infrastructure or pay him. he mainly left because of our lack of financial commitment to the program. he thought he'd done the best he could with what he had to work with.
Possibly could have done what Saban did but Arnsparger had that AD offer from Florida before the 86 season was even over.

archer was a good coach. great dc. we got him on the cheap and we kept falling behind in the arms race. it could've helped archer's recruiting, something he wasn't known for and something we didn't offer him any help in.
That is definitely true. Recruiting was a whole different animal then but no less important. If we had put an ace recruiter in place you only need to look at what Archer did with Arnspargers recruits to see what he could have done. Really kind of short circuited a promising career.

hallman could actually recruit his arse off in spite of substandard infrastructure. couldn't put it together in the win column.
I don’t recall that as a whole but he picked up a several good players for sure. Jamie Howard, Eddie Kennison, Allan Faneca, David Lafleur. I did not follow recruiting in that time so I’ll have to take your word for it.
quote:
emmert being here was a large factor in saban's decision, along with recruiting situation. that's from saban's own mouth.
That is definitely true, Emmert overrode Dean on the initial offer/counter offer and said to pay what Sexton was asking.

sure. if we win 11 games in think the odds of him staying are <50%, but it shouldn't be a suprise if he's here in 2020.

Venables Is a better D/C then Aranda and it’s not even close. We keep trying to convince ourselves that Aranda is great, but in reality he’s just average. I hate to admit it, but it’s true.
He was pitiful in losses to ND and A&M. I get nervous when the games on the line and we’re on defense. I’ve seen great defenses at LSU and to me, he’s just average. Flame away...

the truth is somewhere in the middle, but when you get one that is above average you want to keep him but it's not like he is unreplaceable. Hopefully he stays a while however as continuity can be a good thing.

You don't think Aranda would make a good HC?

Benny thinks a history of utter failure is better than no history.

He’s needs to be able to stop the option to the short side of the field better. Dan Mullen has take Aranda to school the last two time they’ve gone head to head.
We need to be more dominant upfront and stop the run better.

It's almost like Dan Mullen is an elite offensive mind or something.

Kevin Coyle became the head coach of a professional football team after being an analyst for the Eaux.
you cant be serious
im sure it had nothing to do with him being an nfl coordinator and a coordinator in cfb.
before 2016 Coyle's resume was vastly better than O's resume.

the defense gave up 6 2nd half points against Florida

It's not even close to true. Aranda is a very good if not great DC. How you can point to the aTm game and criticize Aranda is beyond me.

Does anybody really know if Dave Aranda wants to be a HC?
I want the best for him and his future.
But just because you are the best DC in college football doesn’t necessarily translate into being a great HC.

Because you used a laughing emoji when someone suggested that he would be a good HC here.

question #1. Is this something he is seeking to be?
quote:

I want what is best for LSU footballs future. I am a fan of the LSU football program not individual coaches. He does seem like a good guy and I like to see good people succeed, so I guess on some tangential level I would like to see him succeed

that's the truth. Being a great coordinator on one side of the ball or the other ranks pretty low on the list of characteristics that are important to being a head football coach.

quote:exactly. Some coaches don't want to be head coaches and don't have the personality or energy to be a head coach. The skill sets for a coordinator and head coach are completely different.

Maybe Aranda does want to be a head coach, but we have no freaking idea. And I sure don't want him to be head coach here without any experience at it. Our next head coach, whenever that is, needs to be a guy with proven success at the head coach level.
