Would you rather us say it’s in Baker. I don’t know what worse

I don't disagree with you. However the people opposed to moving the Zoo continually reference the negative impact it would have on NBR. The article also talks about the upgrades as a way to improve NBR's image.
quote:

Consultants said nearly 700 residents completed surveys pinpointing the desired amenities and programs they'd like to see included in the restoration and improvements at both facilities, which touched on themes of wanting the projects to "change the perception of North Baton Rouge," highlighting nature and animal habitats, and adding walking trails, playground areas, water trails and aerial sports options at Greenwood Park.

So while you and I may not think it's NBR, the people that make the decisions do.

Opposed the new zoo because in the end it would cost twice the money to do a new one and in the end the same people who let many of our parks, golf courses, and zoo decline would still be in charge and it would all fall apart.

wrong. The new zoo would have been almost completely paid for by private donors. When it was let known that it wasn’t gonna move most of the donors pulled out of their promises. Everybody knows that it cannot be self sufficient where it is currently located. Now instead of turning into a revenue stream for other parks it will have to be paid for by the citizens of EBR

BS
They had donors lined up, but not 100 million dollars plus. If I’m wrong show me where.

And zoos don’t make a profit. They are subsidized by donors and tax dollars.

Here’s the truth:

BREC also has to figure out how to pay for the move which has an estimated cost of $110 million. The board hopes private donors will support the move, otherwise tax payers may be asked to pay more.

The only zoo that is worse than BR Zoo is San Antonio’s Zoo. Old , rotting and hotter than Hades

So you suggest letting the same people build a new one so they can watch it decay?

So they are having a meeting at Highland road park about the Zoo in North Baton Rouge. Why would they not have the meeting in North Baton Rouge. Oh that’s right nobody would go

Wasn't this Zoo in a shady area? Are they moving it? Last i heard, on here, moving it was racist and a waste of $$$$.

Not from the area any longer but I believe moving somewhere in south Baton Rouge would make a little more sense.

It would have done better in South BR near Prairieville but that was racist

Too expensive to do that, and folks near the proposed site didn’t want it.

I had always hoped they would move it south of the LSU campus on river road and partner up with the vet school.

Closing Dumas Golf Course is a damned shame. It is a B.R. tradition and was designed by former mayor Woody Dumas. The course is well laid out and is fairly challenging. If a course must be closed, close Clark Park which is a short, scruffy 9-hole POS.

All of Santa Maria opposed.
The neighborhood adjacent to the proposed zoo.

No one but NBR wanted it.

Good for them. I'm on the other side of the parish but that area BREC has at Greenwood and the zoo are awesome.

I wish they had more neighborhood parks in central. It's downright criminal that Bellingrath doesn't have a park.
