I'll be honest I never thought about this guy as a legit NFL prospect until watching this breakdown of his skillset. I like that he can already manipulate coverage and move safeties. He's not just a one read college QB. Wouldn't mind him as a 6th or 7th round pick.

Another guy I completely wrote off was Jarrett Stidham. Dude has a lot of tools to work with but from the way it looks he was sort of a bad fit in Gus's offense at Auburn. He's a player that could get lost in the shuffle and still be sitting there in the 4th or 5th round.

I’m a bit hesitant since Leach was his coach. He tends to make his QBs look better than they actually are. Out of curiosity, has Leach had any QB go high in the NFL draft?

I watched a few WSU games this season and I agree with all of your points OP. Just a bit hesitant since Leach is such a good offensive mind in the college game.

There’s only enough room in New Orleans for one set of bad facial hair. With AD moving out, it opens the door for Minshew

Leach’s QBs (as HC and OC) who made it to the NFL: Kliff Kingsbury, B. J. Symons, Josh Heupel and Tim Couch.

just stop

guys who are unilaterally considered as locks to be starters for teams cant make the cut and here you are looking at guys no one give a chance and thinking they are somehow going to be and undiscovered gem?

the last 3 QBs we picked werent even good practice squad backups so you draft them in first 10 picks of the 1st round or you go FA for a QB when its time if you expect a better then 50/50 chance of them being your future QB

I never said the guy would become a star so I don't know what you're talking about. You still need backup QBs on your roster and you don't burn a 1st round pick to find one of those. Gardner Minshew could probably be acquired in the 7th or even as a UDFA.

Chase Daniel was an undrafted free agent castoff that we signed from the Redskins and all he's done is have a long career as a backup capable of keeping his team competetive for a few games if needed. If Minshew can attain that level in the NFL then that's a successful career for him. So yes, he is a legitimate prospect in the sense he can do things required of NFL QBs but I'm not advocating he can be the successor to Drew right away. That would be a best case scenario, but at the very least you have a cheap prospect you can look at and see if you can mold them into something.

I’d rather use our limited picks on a position of need, we already have 2 very capable QB’s. Let’s see how the transition to bridge water in the next couple years goes first.

Pretty much any pick in round 6 or 7 is going to be for special teams help, a developmental player, or backup depth. No teams are drafting for immediate need in those rounds.

Didn't get the D1 offers out of HS.-Led HS to 6A champ.
Went JUCO - went to Juco Champ.
Went to East Carolina
Transferred to Wash St. to play under Leach

He can play, but isn't prototypical. He has a Baker Mayfield background and style of play.

I never mentioned the value of a late round pick. I was saying that it made no sense to draft a QB when we already have a great group of QB’s along with other positions we need more.

After Brees and Bridgewater they have Taysom Hill and JT Barrett. Hill is a utility player at this point and Barrett bounced on and off the practice squad all year. If there's a QB prospect on the board they think has more potential then they should absolutely take them. It could be someone like Finley from NC State or Stidham.
