Grass Help needed - What is wrong with this section of grass in my back yard?

Every year this section, about 8 x 10, just doesn't grow like the rest of the back yard. I have put extra fertilizer on it, put down fungus spread in the fall etc...
What can I do to fix his section of the yard?

what kind of grass? Does it get much traffic?

It gets no traffic other than my lawnmower and it's mostly St Aug. Maybe just buy some squares and overlay or should's I scrape off the bad area?

Not sure if it would work for your specific application, but I had a similar problem and I bought the at-home soil test kits.
My specific area was too high in nitrates and phosphates (IIRC) so I literally dug out a foot of soil x 4' section, relevelled and put grass on top. It mated with the old grass perfectly.

Looks like it may be too much moisture and fungal problems happen when you have too much moisture.

Just a thought... my neighbor had this issue, recurring, and it turned out they were mini-sink holes from where builders had buried construction debris 20 years ago, and the slight divet is where water would pool, thus fungus, regardless of what fungus treatments were used. You couldn't really tell they were sink holes just by looking, they were very slight. Once he figured it out though, it was obvious. He leveled them all out with sand and the bermuda took over quickly.

Do not put down extra fert thinking that will help your lawn. If your st aug has a fungus that will make it explode. Aerate your lawn and top dress it with peat moss.

Looks potentially to be the start of brown patch.
