recommended forester on the North Shore- update

I'm in the first steps of looking into clearing out around 100 acres of land on the north shore, the property is between hwy 1081 (stafford rd) and old military rd. The land itself has not been touched in over 20 years and is completely overgrown with brush, pines and hardwoods.
Here's where the forester comes into play. I don't want to timber all the trees but just thin it out a bit--I was thinking to take out some of the mature pines and clear out all the brush while keeping most of the hardwoods. I need someone to consult with on what to keep and what to take down.
I'm not looking to sell anything as of right now but maybe down the road keep 20 or so acres for myself to build a country home on the pond that's on the land and portion out the rest of land and sell as 3 acre lots.
The only entrance that's off of 1081 has been completely grown over and the bridge that crosses the Little Bogue Falaya river that runs through the land is falling apart.
Also, what should I do about potential squaters. My wife and I went out there a few years ago and noticed an unwanted trailer plopped down next to the bridge. She got freaked out and we left before checking out if anyone was squating there or if it was just dumped there.
Anyone has any pro-tips on this process. I'm not looking to make a profit off the timber but would rather having everything cleared out a bit.

If it's in St. Tammany Parish good luck. No logger wants to work there due to all the parish restrictions.

try the LSU Ag Center

Tammany Tree Service could probably handle something like that. I've worked with them in the past and they're good folks and very easy to deal with. It's definitely worth giving them a call. They also have licensed arborists.
I know this runs contrary to your OP, but I've been casually looking for a 10-15 acre piece out there for single family residential use. If you think selling a chunk that size is a future possibility, let me know and we can stay in touch via email.

This is what I’m looking for, I’ll contact Tammany Tree Service—someone who knows the area and rules of doing such a project.
We’re not looking to sell anything yet. Like I said in the OP, still in the elementary stages of the process. I haven’t even contacted a land agent to get a quote on how much this land is worth yet. I do know that a portion of the land is in a floodplain though.
My wife and I want to respect the neighbors along 1081 and not sell to a big developer.
I’ll keep updating this post for more advice as we continue the process. Thanks for the recommendation.

Good on y’all. I’ve been looking for a bigger piece out there to get away from all the development closer to town
Keep this thread updated with your experience with whatever tree folks you go with. Could be helpful for myself and others going forward, as most of my work with Tammany Tree has been on commercial jobs.

Do you have any interest in leasing this property for bow hunting?

You can look up the LA Society of American Foresters, and find ones in SELA. I don't think many people will want to deal with permits for building (or having a temporary structure) a bridge across the Little Bogue Falaya. It's one thing to cross a canal, but a different animal to mess with a river

If he can access it from a state road he should be okay. If he has to come in from a parish road he screwed.
OP
Whatever you do please dont sell it for development.

If you have an old trailer I’d absolutely get rid of it. Burn it down and someone will probably take the metal for scrap.

We're doing a walkthrough next week with the company you recommended. I asked about some concerns about St. Tammany rules on clearing out land and he said there are no issues. Thanks for the heads up bluemoons

Bump
Bluemoons if you see this I’ve been working with Tammany Tree Service to clear out the road that runs through the land. Thanks for the recommendation, they have been great to work with
I shared this on Home and Garden board, maybe someone on here may be able to help me out.
-Looking for recommendations of a company that will come in and remove a dilapidated house that once stood on my property in Covington?
A large tree fell on the small home during Katrina and we haven’t touched the land since then. We just recently started clearing out the road that ran through the land and want to build another structure where the house once stood. The area is heavily wooded with pines and hardwoods so burning the old house down is out of the question. I don’t have the time to do this myself plus there are some huge snakes and other creatures probably living in there I want nothing to do with.
Anyone know a rough estimate on what someone will charge to come in with a bulldozer and haul off the house from our property?
