Using mental illness as a slur is not cool

I lost a friend to suicide last week and I'm sick of people using mental illness as a derogatory term here on TD. This board should be ashamed of themselves for not understanding the stigma attached to mental health. I'm out. Bye.

I’ve lost a friend to suicide and have another friend with a special needs daughter. Hearing people use mental illness and words like “tard” is offensive to me but I don’t say anything about it because I know how I would be received. And that’s a big problem.

We all probably have some word that offends us, or some viewpoint. But we all must understand if we're going to the part of society, or part of a message board you're going to run into that.
However the part in bold says something about you, you're worried about how you're going to be received an anonymous message board?
I would think more of you, since that seems important, if you were to at least take a stand about something you find offensive.
