Even if LSU somehow got involved, what leverage do they really have?
Leverage would imply LSU is forcing BR to do something. I'm asking if LSU should get involved in a push b.c. they recognize revenue left on the table.

im not sure who all is involved in the decisions but it's obvious to all that the traffic issue in BR is pretty unparalleled and is slowly diminishing away the ability to have a more fully functional society.
other cities along rivers have many more bridges and more bridge lanes per capita. Quite a few of them also have pretty decent mass transit.
baton rouge desperately needs another bridge and accompanying highway route around the city.
i cant say i blame you for avoiding friday games. it is phenomenally bad at times on friday - even with no accidents. it's not uncommon for transit time from prairieville/gonzales area of I-1o to port allen to be over 90 minutes, which is really absurd.

Sunshine bridge
No matter how bad the traffic is at the I10-110 split, there is no way that taking the Sunshine bridge is going to get someone from Lafayette to LSU faster.

I would have to leave work at 3 p.m. on a Friday to cross the bridge to make a 7 p.m. first pitch.
This is just not true. Unless there is a major wreck, which is the exception, the backup at the bridge usually doesn't cause more than a 15-30 minute delay at most.

I’m sure any bridge or road widening project will be opposed by a vocal group of LSU students and professors calling the project racist.
That's almost a sure bet.

Have you tried crossing the bridge on a FRIDAY between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.? I'm surprised someone would challenge this. I thought it was recognized as fact. Like water is wet.
Again, I'm talking about Friday. Half the license plates are from out-of-state b.c. of weekend travel. Not talking about local traffic.
Talking about Friday bw 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. eastbound.

push for new BR bridge?
They want it pushed as far away from campus as possible.

plans for new bridge
Plans don't mean a damned thing. I'm tired of fricking "plans" taking place in Louisiana. We need some god damned execution from the state.

LOL...just how much do you think your concessions for one game add up to? And do you honestly think LSU gives a frick about your missed hotel/motel stay for 8-10 Fridays? AND, do you honestly think the state or Feds give a shite about your travel predicament for maybe 8 -10 games spread across only four months in the spring?
Wake the frick up dude! How you get there and where you stay is YOUR problem! Move east of the river or STFU about your intolerable Friday travel schedule! Your measly few bucks ain't shite compared to the logistics of building a new bridge and if You don't buy tickets, someone else will!

I cross there EVERY frickING FRIDAY headed into Baton Rouge and it rarely takes me more than 30-45 mins TOPS to get across the bridge and on past College Drive! Find something else to bitch about or sell your tickets wuss!

I don't understand how this is difficult to understand. If there are a few hundred just like me, or even 1000, that adds up to real revenue.
Take off your fan hat and think in business terms. You never want to leave money on the table. Baton Rouge absolutely wants people sleeping in their hotels and eating in their restaurants. I'm not saying LSU or BR cares about 1 person and their travel time to BR. I'm saying they do care about a few hundred or maybe 1000 people who would spend money in the community.
Not saying its the reason for a new bridge. Saying it's one of hundreds of reasons to build a bridge.

Again, if we are talking about a few hundred, or even 1000 people, then a lot. Math is not difficult. Don't let it slow you down.

I thought they had plans
I'd advise everyone to watch some committee meetings in the legislature over the next 58 days. It's as educational as it is disappointing.

I'm curious to see how much the toll will cost?
Will it be like the Crestant City Connection, $1 cash or .25-40 cents with a tag? or
$5 cash and $3 with tag like the Causeway, plus $52.50 to open a tag account.

I can see compounding numbers is not your forte'! YOU add it up and come up with a number that will sway the Feds or State moneymen Einstein! If you think the state and the Feds, when considering a billion dollar project, give any consideration to the number of potential fans headed to an LSU game on a Friday 8-10 times a year, you're way more naive than I originally thought! But you go ahead and keep on dreaming! And while you're at it, contact the Feds And State folks with your concern and show them how much the city and LSU stand to loose and see if it sways them the least bit!

It is tougher to get to Baton Rouge from Houston than it used to be and Fridays crossing the new bridge is dreadful, but since I'm retired I can usually find a time to leave home and not deal with it too much. I wish they would build a bypass and new bridge, but it's not going to stop me from coming to LSU games.

I used to live in BR and work in Laffy. It was slow on Friday afternoons, but I never missed a baseball game because of it unless there was an accident.
If you're getting off the bridge at the Nicholson exit doesn't take long to get to LSU.
