Can you name a single battle where he had fewer men and he lost? Because I can count on one finger the number of battles Grant actually lost in the Civil War
You need better fingers.

Grant recognized that it would result in stupid casualties on his side after attempting to assault the city in May. He wasn't enthusiastic about a siege, but the siege was much more practical. Union casualties after the initial failed assaults were generally low.
Many of Grant's moves resulted in "stupid casualties on his side"

He is absolutely wrong. Lee was never tried for treason. Neither were any Confederate soldiers. They are all considered American veterans.
A fine point that idiots can't seem to grasp.
Pretty sure most of the higher ups had treason charges pinned to them. However, since Grant wanted the nation to "heal" he persuaded Johnson to have the charges dropped.
Lee did lose his right to vote and his family home, the Curtis-Lee Mansion and property was seized and turned into Arlington National Cemetery.

Bad arse! I’ve been considering joining the Sons of Confederate Veterans after I found that out. I know you don’t have to be a descendant to join, but after I found that out I’ve been considering.
I probably should do it too. I believe I could also join the Sons of the Revolution too.

I'm eligible for both the Sons of Confederate Vets and the Sons of Union Vets if I wanted to join. The Confederate organization is a little too "Lost Cause" for me.

Yeah I could only do one. I’m like 90% Acadian. Nothing in the colonies. I do have some family history fighting the British in Acadie through Beausoleil, but that’s about it.

Grant was a good strategist and probably the best big picture guy for the North.
Probably the worst offense casualty wise was the Battle of the Crater where he and Meade put a stop to using the guys trained for the first assault because they were black and casualties were expected to be high and that would look bad. So Burnside made some other commanders draw lots.
The guys get sent in after the mine blows, confused as hell. No one knows what's going on. And they lose their gambit to break into st Petersburg.
All because publicity and politics that troops prepared to assault were pulled out. Then I think a different colored command or two went into there anyway so he pulled the punch for no reason.

Well he tended to wait till the odds were stacked heavily in his favor. He had good patience and persistence. So many times during a battle he'd fail, fail again, call more soldiers, fail again, then succeed.

Absolutely
The argument is moot but I myself and many others wonder what would the outcome have been if Lee was in charge of the north and Grant the south. Most believe the war would have been over in months. That wasn't the case so it doesn't matter.
Grant did what it took to achieve his goals though.

History is written by the victors. If Lee didn't want to be branded a traitor, he should have won.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, William Harry Lee, all traitors that followed their State’s wishes. But Lee can’t be held in the same regard?
Thank God the United States Military Academy doesn’t agree.
None of those guys were traitors to the United States. As I said, Lee can be held in high regard but he don't act like he was forced to fight against the US despite his personal views. It was a shitty situation all around and he certainly shouldn't be vilified either.

never said he was overrated. He technically wasn't a traitor since he wasn't charged with it.

Never said he wasn't. Just saying he shouldn't be treated as though he did nothing wrong.

You cannot give anything close to a proper summary of Robert E. Lee in one post unless you have about an hour to kill, which I don’t. That’s why I urge people to go read about the man themselves. Once you do you’ll realize how stupid and ignorant people who bash and disrespect R.E. Lee sound.
Well he led a losing effort, so I’m assuming there are some solid takeaways regarding moral victories?

C'mon Lee is so honorable that once it became clear the people teaching the South how to manufacture AK-47s to win the war (and heart pills), were really time traveling white supremacists, he took the fight to them and fixed the timeline.
Man is a saint.
