What's your story and at what point did you say "frick it, I'm getting a lawyer"?

Not a lawyer, but I go to the courthouse pretty often. No matter how shitty my day is I see those people waiting and remind myself it could be worse.

Ha! Nope that's not an issue anymore. That neighbor actually died so she won't be driving there any more.

Had a leak on a dormer, only reason i knew was because i started seeing spots on the Sheetrock ceiling in garage. House was still under warranty, so I called the contractor and told him what was going on. He sent 2 teens out with a caulk gun and I didn’t even let them crawl on the roof. I saw for myself that there was not any flashing under the dormer. The warranty on the structure of the house was going to end in about 6 months from this time. I had called and called him to take care of this issue before it got any worse with no luck. He ignored me and was hoping I’d just let it go. Well I personally had some sheet rock guys come to take the Sheetrock off the garage door headers and the 2x12 beams were completely rotted thru from water damage. Called him multiple times with no luck, would answer occasionally and he’d make a bunch of empty promises. Contacted a lawyer and sent him a certified letter and the day it arrived he called and wanted to make everything right. After all the lies and empty promises, i didn’t trust him. We pressed forward and got his insurance to cough up what it cost to replace everything including beams, sheetrock, brick, and stucco work. I hate the sue happy culture that we live in, but I’m not going to eat 20k because some a-hole wanted to take shortcuts and didn’t want to own up to his mistakes after giving him multiple chances to make things right.

TL;DR i know

Got hit by a car. First insurance adjuster was extremely nice. But she came see me when I was covered in road rash with my jaw wired shut. Think she reported back and they put my case in the hands of their more hard nosed adjuster. He was an arse who consistently tried to say everything was much less severe than it was. After a few months I got a lawyer. Even the lawyer said he had never dealt with someone so difficult. I ended up roughly with what I felt I deserved, but they paid 33% more than they needed to just because of that adjuster making me go to a lawyer.

Settle. Just do it.

ETA: sorry, I’ve only been in the receiving end.
