OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The maker of OxyContin and the family that owns the company have reached a $270 million settlement with the state of Oklahoma over the prescription painkiller's role in the nation's deadly opioid crisis, a person familiar with the agreement said Tuesday.

All you lawsuit idiots are going to keep us from getting new medicine. OxyContin is a life saving drug. I know because my cousin takes it for his fibromyalgia

People dying from abusing opioids who may or may not have started on Oxy and gone on to abuse drugs means the people who created Oxy are evil?

Pain relievers are among the worst of humanity’s inventions for 2 reasons:

1) Pain is there for a reason. It is a signal. Pain saves lives because it tells us something is going on in our body that needs to be addressed. Pain relievers completely muck up this process

2) something like 80% of heroin users started off with doctor prescribed pain Meds

I watched some documentary about the drug problem in Oklahoma. If I recall, it stated that Oklahoma is the only or one of the few states in which Meth is a bigger problem than opioids.

There are four points in Oklahoma in which drug that come from the cartels in Mexico stop for distribution that goes through the rest of the country, and because of those four points, meth is more accessible than opioids.

These are all salient points to some argument, I'm just not sure they support the idea that the family is evil.

A lot of people at various levels played a role in the epidemic. I doubt many had a comprehensive understanding of the dangers or widespread effects of oxy and opioids.

They thought the drug was the equivalent of a firecracker. It could be dangerous and some supervision and responsibility was required. They didn’t know it was the equivalent of a stick of dynamite.

Now imagine that map in 2019.

It is exponentially worse than it was in just 2015.

When I broke my leg, my body told me pretty quickly. I didn't need it to keep telling so I could "address" it. Pain killers are necessary and allow people to recover from injuries and surgeries and be more comfortable at end of life.

Nice Hyperbole.

If chronic? Not with opioids. Unless you are old AF in a nursing home in which case take whatever makes you happy
