and he says “Blade Runner” is stupid.

He gets pissed when I say they are not even in the same category when it comes to lists of great movies. Plus he gets mad when I say TG has not held up well. I liked it in 1986, but it kind of sucks now.

Granted, my coworker is 25 years old.

What you say?

Blade runner is “better” but top gun gun is a classic. A true American film that will never be forgotten and rightfully so. I think blade runner is a better film, but I will always take top gun over it any day of the week

Top Gun was filmed with zero special effects. Real jets, real aircraft carriers. You saying it feels dated is bullshite compare to blade runner.

Blade Runner came out in 82 and Top Gun in 86. Do you have a different point in bringing up his age other than the same old "millennials suck bc they don’t agree with me”?

Wrong!!!

TG’s dog fight scenes had a ton of special effects.

Maybe your coworker is just attracted to the blatant homoeroticism in Top Gun. NTTAWWT.

Which movie have you watched more in your lifetime?

That's your personal answer.

Others might have a different answer.

I have watched Top Gun more times in my life than Blade Runner.

But I own Blade Runner and not Top Gun.

It just never seems to call me back though even though you think it must be far better. It's a unicorn among fans and critics, some who swear by it's film mythology and critics who hated it - but it gained cult status 25 years later after bombing (the budget was 28 mil, it made 27 mil USA gross.)

I will say, Blade Runner is wine...it seems to get better every year in everyone's eyes.

I have to be in a really specific kind of mood to watch Blade Runner. I'll watch Top Gun whenever and love it

Blade Runner is easily one of the GOAT Sci Fi movies. Surprised this is up for debate Of course I understand the nostalgia factor for Top Gun fans though.

Disagree with the notion that Blade Runner is boring, I find it mesmerizing. The aesthetics are iconic: the cyber punk look, the noir atmosphere, the asian neon lighting, the use of light and shadow in single shots coupled with smoke/rain/glow....the movie has a look and style like none other (though many have tried).

He's right. Blade Runner was boring. Top Gun is iconic.

Top Gun is fricking awesome and everyone likes it.

Blade Runner is one of those movies that people like to say they love because it’s supposedly a classic but Top Gun is far more entertaining, which is the point of movies anyways.

Top Gun wins

I'm not going to lie - not counting Star Trek, I owned (I guess still own) about 25 laserdisc films and Blade Runner and Top Gun were both in that number. At this point in my life (I came of age in the mid-80s), I've seen Top Gun at least 20 times.

But, I've seen Blade Runner 50 or so at this point. I probably watch Blade Runner 2 or 3 times every year.
