He's no smarter than the rest of the idiots that are running. One of his proposals is to basically have a Fake News Czar who would be tasked with monitoring the media and prosecuting those the government accuses of lying. There is absolutely no way that position would ever be abused by those in power is there?

Actually I agree with you
He is not a line tower like the rest of the Dems, and he knows what he is saying. While I fundamentally disagree with his "Everyone gets $1000 a month for free" nonsense, at least he is of sound reason and backs up his stances with a solid position.
I am in the minority on this board, but I prefer a Dem opponent to Trump that I feel at least would run this country safely if it Trump were to lose. I think he is the best of the Dems in this regard, so I hope he does win the nom. Don't discount him. He is the 2016 version of Trump to the Dem primaries. He has the interwebz on his side.

Yeah, he’s definitely the candidate I’d like to have a beer with and I like a lot of the shite he is spouting (so does Tucker Carlson btw), but I don’t see he has much of a chance. He is right that automation is about to be a big fricking issue, specifically with truckers.
Hopefully he can get a conversation going from politicians who don’t give two fricks about AI but spout to the heavens about global warming. AI scares me way more than climate change.

Do you know what inflation is? Look at the value of a Venezuelan dollar. Do you know how that happened?
Some version of UBI is inevitable. Machines are progressing at such a rate that soon the only jobs left will be in the creative sector. That’s going to leave a frickton of people out of work.

I would too, but I do not think in any way that Yang is that person. The very fact that he pushes the failed ideology of UBI as a fundamental platform of his campaign is enough for me to understand that he's dangerously naive about even basic economics and human behavior or wants to purposely destroy this country.

Compare him to the rest though. He explains his UBI platform at least with logic and reason (as best as anyone can attribute these to UBI). My point is that of the Dem class he is the safest one to run the country. I rank them as:
Yang
Biden
Tulsi
Narc Harris
The rest would destroy us (these would significantly harm us though)

And nobody in that camp has done the math to see that's $33 TRILLION (with a T) per year, or 1.5x the size of the economy, give or take?
Not one of them?
(ETA: $33 Trillion would be $10k per year for everybody - $1000 per month would be almost $40 T, which would be almost 2x the size of the economy...)

The math never seems to work and I'm skeptical that giving money to poor people would be a better system than our current welfare structure. Dismantling all other welfare programs and giving people a monthly check, would in theory, save money on administrative costs. In practice, I'd wager that irresponsible people would probably use the money poorly, and we'd end up in a worse situation.
Honestly, I don't see a way for UBI to work unless two things happen concurrently: there is a sovereign fund from which payments can be drawn from (and be paid into) and there is a dismantling of other forms of welfare.
I think UBI might be an eventuality due to automation, or rather, I'm not opposed to UBI if it is the response we choose to automation, but I think it's a slippery slope that could lead to some disastrous consequences.

That will depend on what happens in the House and Senate.
If the economically inept hold (or increase their hold in) the House and/or Senate at the end of the day and Yang becomes President, some of that economic insanity might actually be passed through. Otherwise, you are right. As long as enough of the House and Senate is in GOP (not e) hands (or even the hands of those rare creatures known as "moderate Democrats") then I don't think he could get a greased noodle passed through Congress due to being so far out on the fringe.

That is the same for all of the candidates. Really the more I think about it the more I think Biden is the most sane and competent of the Dem candidates. He will be tougher than the rest dealing with foreign nations, and I think he is the least Socialist of the bunch.

I believe this would eliminate Welfare so that’s where some of the money would come from . Unfortunately a lot of Americans want something for free and are not smart enough to know they are paying for this in their taxes . To me this is not a bad idea because it eliminates welfare so most of us would actually get more money then we do now. This would hurt everyone on welfare and force them to work . Republicans will never make cuts to welfare so this would be the next best thing .

Has anyone asked him if his $1k per month check will then cancel out other forms of welfare? If so, I am more open to it as this will be cheaper, and potentially, more effective.

112 million (>18 years old) at 12k each is 1.35 trillion. Subtract current welfare spending of ~$400B (not counting ~$700B in medicare).
That doesnt take into account money that is spent by states either (which would give them an opportunity to lower taxes).
It also doesn't take into account the positive effects of people spending that money. Not nearly as expensive as you would expect at first glance.

Yes he talked about this specifically on Joe Rogan’s Podcast. Essentially you can opt out of welfare programs as they currently stand now and get $1000 a month or you can maintain your current welfare and not receive the Freedom Dividend. You will not get welfare and the Freedom Dividend on top of it under his plan.

I need to go listen to this podcast. I love JRE. And if this is the case I 100% approve the Freedom Dividend. I hope this guy gets media attention he deserves as he actually seems competent. I probably disagree with him on 2/3 of his policy, but this I can get behind.
