Here's an explanation - people are stupid.

In one case, LSU is saying they won't make public specific comments due to pending legal issues.

In the other case, LSU wants to privately talk to their coach.

People are trying to say that LSU is being hypocritical, when it's two completely different situations.

If a third party (the NCAA) is brought in, it's no longer private though.

Both are being advised by legal counsel not to comment on on-going criminal investigations.

That's good legal advice for both.

But one party is penalizing the other for doing the same thing they are doing.

This is not that complicated.

If you think anything Wade says to the LSU administration, with or without NCAA representatives present, will be "private" for more than 5 minutes after the meeting, you're delusional.

There is nothing private about having the NCAA included in a meeting.
