Gotta get off the O-T for a bit. Between this and the Pedo attorney’s arrest warrant. frick man.

Most importantly: prayers to redstick. I have 3 kids 6 and under, and I’m literally in tears reading through all this.

I ask that God give you the strength to endure and live on. I know the hurt will not be forgotten. There is no greater loss, but there is no greater love. I pray you and your wife support each other through this enormous event. Please consider counseling.

Have we discussed group flowers or donations from the OT? I can't get redatick and his wife out of my mind.

5 days later and I still find myself just reading those short words in the first post over and over.

I am so sorry.

has there been any info regarding the service

We cannot make any service arrangements yet. The medical examiner said the investigation could take up to month or even longer. So we are just stuck waiting for now.

As an RN I would say the empty IV bag would have had nothing to do with your son’s passing. My heart is breaking for you.

They kept having problems getting his IV to flow so they had placed a pressure sleeve on the outside of the IV bag and were applying pressure to it.

I know you will never fully get over this loss, but I hope eventually you get the answers you need to be at peace. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

I just can’t stop thinking about you and your family.

Wasn’t he there for being dehydrated? Maybe a nurse or doctor can weigh on this- but I thought pressure bags were for use in emergencies when extremely fast infusion is needed.

Thank you. I've poured through the medical reports the past few days to try and figure something out but nothing really stands out. The clinic had taken his vital signs 9 minutes before we went into arrest and everything was normal. I do know now that he had no chance of recovering. The paramedics did CPR on him for more than an hour.

quote:

Asystole is the absence of ventricular contractions (note: this is in the context of a lethal heart arrhythmia, not an induced asystole on a cooled patient on a heart-lung machine and general anesthesia, during surgery necessitating stopping the heart). Asystole is the most serious form of cardiac arrest and is usually irreversible. A cardiac flatline is the state of total cessation of electrical activity from the heart, which means no tissue contraction from the heart muscle and therefore no blood flow to the rest of the body.

quote:

While the heart is asystolic, there is no blood flow to the brain unless CPR or internal cardiac massage (when the chest is opened and the heart is manually compressed) is performed, and even then it is a small amount. After many emergency treatments have been applied but the heart is still unresponsive, it is time to consider pronouncing the patient dead. Even in the rare case that a rhythm reappears, if asystole has persisted for fifteen minutes or more, the brain will have been deprived of oxygen long enough to cause brain death.

As a parent it tears me up to know that you've had to learn those terms and try to come to grips with and understand this tragic event.

God bless you and your wife.

He had started vomiting Friday night but was still able to drink fluids and eat. By Sunday he seemed to be getting better but we decided to take him in just as a precaution to get checked for the flu. The clinic we brought him to had been giving him IV fluids for more than 4 hours and had asked to keep him 6-8 more hours just before he went into arrest.

None of his vitals or bloodwork showed any signs of a problem.

I do also know now that the ER doctor is the one who triggered the investigation into his death.
