I think she scammed somewhere in the neighborhood of $60K during that time.
I wouldn't say she scammed the company. This was mistake by the company. Now you could justifiably say she was dishonest, but not a scam. She just failed to disclose the error.

How do you get demoted at Jimmy John's?
Didn't it say they were hired as manager trainee? Probably during the training they figured out the person wasn't management capable so they demoted them to a regular employee.

Why is an employee responsible for clerical errors anyway? You are responsible for seeing where your money goes
My company accidentally paid me a sizeable bonus that I wasn't eligible for. I notified them immediately and paid it back.
I get your point, but the employee has to use their common sense at some point.

quote:Well its fast food management, so yeah. Its shite. Probably has to work 60-70 hours a week for that $550 salary too and doesn't make OT pay because management positions are considered exempt employees
The manager only makes 550 a week? Damn that is a trash job

That’s because you have a career and a future and usually the loss of your job and the hit to your reputation isn’t worth the windfall.
Most companies don’t care about their workers. And so shouldn’t be surprised when their workers aren’t willing to hurt themselves to rectify a mistake by the company through no fault of their own

The interest would be peanuts. They caught him after 6 months. Even if they gave him the lump sum of $70k to start with what is he going to make in interest? 2 or 3 thou?
Smart investments could pay dividends.
Obviously this guy wasn’t smart. But if you gave me that kind of windfall I guarantee you I could make it make money for me

A difference that big should be reported to management for sure but the fact of the matter is that he continued to punch in as “person in charge”, which indicates to me that he knew what he was doing, unless he’s just really really really really stupid. We already know for sure that he’s at least really really stupid. But anyway... This is clearly stated in the OP bro.

So he only worked 125 hours in 7 months?

We had a payroll clerk that accidentally entered a $1.00 raise as $10.00 raise. When I caught the error months later and brought it the employees attention he quit. Legal Dept said we had to eat the overpayment.
That's awesome.

Exactly! I can figure out the following week if someone was clocked in 15 minutes longer than they should’ve been. Can’t make me believe that nobody noticed that

He's a smart employee, not a dumbass.
The Payroll Manager and Store Manager should be reprimanded for having very poor controls in place.

You underestimate the incompetence of your average human being, much less your BELOW average corporate restaurant manager

I mean, there should be a process in place to check payroll registers for any differences. Goes without saying that someone should be reviewing those registers before payments go out. Even though the payroll clerk messed up, it's still up to management to identify those errors timely.

I think the strategy here depends on if it's a career or just a job. If it's a career, say something right away and pay the company back. Your future, health care, your kids health cars, etc... all depend on it.
But, if Jimmy Johns screws up and pays me $550/hr. Yeah, I'm letting this one slide. Working only a few hours may be a smart approach too - will be able to make it last longer before being caught and fired.

Yep, it's obvious with this:

We had a part time janitor with a mental disability and his mailbox was next to mine. Hr put my paystub in his box one week, and the dude was glowing for like 60 minutes telling everyone he got a bonus. He was pretty bummed when he found out it was just the wrong person’s stub lol.
