It better hurry up. It's March and all these blue skies are screwing with my mind.
Got damn has it been nice! The whole NW has been sunny for days.
It's coming, and we'll get it all the way to the end of May .

I enjoyed the Chihuly glass exhibit.
It was amazing.
I also rode up the space needle.
Did the underground Seattle tour.
I really only had 2 half days.
My daughter enjoyed their music museum. The experience.

Stalking Seattle tour was fun for someone who started college in the early 90s listening to grunge, Charity is awesome and she lived through a lot of cool stuff.
Chiluly exhibit was well worth the cost of admission.

4th almost always brings rain.
I always head east over the mountains for guaranteed sunshine.
Well shite, July and August were the driest months according to Wikipedia so I thought I was in good shape.
This year will be the exception.

You'll be fine. No idea what that guy was talking about, never rains around the 4th in Seattle. Looks like it's only rained on the 4th once or twice since 2000.

I've been looking up some hikes and I think I'd prefer one with mountains/lake for scenery. I'd say difficulty not extreme.
Looks like Rainy Lake, Snow Lake, and Mount Pilchuck fit the bill. Twin Falls looks cool too. Sounds like Mount Si might be too hard for those coming along with me.
Any preference?
Now imagine you have a baby attached to your back, does that change your mind?
Seems like Rainy Lake is wheelchair and therefore stroller accessible. Will a stroller be useable on any of the others? I don't plan on having one but options are nice to have.

Seattle has had quite the run lately but it's also the longest run in their recorded history.

It used to be that 4th of Julys were consistently dicey around Seattle, and numbers back that up as Independence Day is statistically the wettest day of July.
quote:
But it sure hasn't been that way recently.
As sunshine fills the skies Tuesday with temperatures topping out in the comfortable 70s, 2017 will the the seventh Fourth of July in a row where it hasn't rained in Seattle. The last rainy Fourth was in 2010
quote:
That kind of streak has never happened in the city's records. The previous stretch had been six years set between 1963 through 1968. But even then, four of those years had a trace of rain meaning it at least drizzled or something and kept up Seattle's gloomy 4th reputation.
In my lifetime in the NW the 4th of July weekend (not just the day but surrounding days) has, for the most part, not been a summer holiday that you could count on great or even good weather. It's why as I got older I started heading east over the mountains. West side is just really warming up and shaking off the rain while the east is in the high 70's to low 80's with zero rain.
I still do that as I'll be in Idaho for this year's 4th of July.

To be honest I have very little hiking experience in WA and haven't done any of those but I'll look them up.

just reminded me of a bad arse climber I know. He's had his son strapped to his back for a few big climbs. I've witnessed it once. Crazy bastard.
I would take a baby on anything up to a scramble rated hike.

I highly doubt it.

Everything you mentioned besides Mt. Si all look nice for your group.
Mt. Si is 4 miles one way with 3150' of elevation gain which isn't for everyone. Going down 3150' in 4 miles can be tough on the knees for a lot of folks too.

Ya, I hiked Huayna Picchu so I have an idea of how bad that can be and don't want to kill anybody.

2 out of the last 18. Accept your loss and move on

I moved here in '11 so that explains why I don't think of it as a rainy holiday.

I usually go east all the way to Spanaway.

I've done 3 of those 4. Twin Falls is the easiest and still has pretty nice views, Pilchuck is probably the most impressive but the elevation gain can be tough. Also, at the top you're looking at a small scramble up some boulders to get into the lookout. Might be difficult with a baby.

Thanks for the insight.
If there are any other trails I should consider I'd appreciate it. Big help!

I’ll be heading that way on my way down to Astoria. Hopefully the coast drive is scenic, please advise if I should take another route.

Your plan is to visit Sea then head to Astoria via Aberdeen then go to Portland?
