What will be the political fallout for those of us still in EBR parish if the st george split is passed? higher taxes?

St. George would still be in EBR Parish, no?

You think things are bad in EBR now, just wait until you loose that St. George tax base.

St. George will be located within EBR Parish, and will therefore still pay Parish taxes.

We live just inside of the city limits too. The end of my street is St George. I still hope it passes though. We can always move if they jack up our taxes too much.

Problem with that scenario is won’t get crap for house when sell it

So they will not pay city taxes and will build their own school system? haven't really been following.

St George or no St George, all of our taxes are going to go up in EBR.

There are still plenty of people in BR that don't really care about the shitty public schools because they plan on sending their kids to private anyway. We fall into this category. I don't even know which elementary or middle school district we live in

One argument to be made in favor is that it COULD help EBR in that it would encourage productive taxpayers to remain in the parish instead of moving to Ascension or Livingston.
Obviously it would hurt BR city, as some of those parish taxes that help the city would potentially go to the new city.

Yes, higher taxes. At least in the medium term. Basically St. George subsidizes city services by picking up a greater share of parishwide costs.
HOWEVER IF St. George works as advertised and keeps people in the parish, it might actually mean lower taxes long-term (well lower than they would otherwise increase to be, not lower relative to right now) as the parish stops hemorrhaging population.

Are they currently paying BR city taxes? I was under the impression they are not since potential St. George residents are located in an unincorporated area.
They will form their own ISD, separate from the EBRP school system with their own school board.

so it seems like the main consequence will be BR schools getting worse than they are now

There are no tax reductions. Only increases.

I don't think they can get much worse, but yes, that is a possible consequence if families relocate to St. George.

I knew someone would think this thus the phrase:

First the school district is a separate but related issue from the city. I think the argument for the city now stands on its own in a way that didn't exist before (thinking of CATS, COA, Mosquito Control, etc).
My biggest concern with the school district is the magnet schools. They are a bright spot, not just in EBR but statewide. The issue is will the EBR school district work something out with StG school district to allow a certain number of spots in magnets? I am concerned there will be too much bad blood on each side for something like that to happen.

The phrase needed to be said anyway.
