Fusion reactors have been around for awhile. You can even buy them. The key is getting one that is efficient with more than 100% efficiency the goal. They are building one now in France that when completed should do just that.

Skunk Works recently filed a patent for a "miniature" nuclear fusion reactor. If they're successful this will be a major game changer for space travel.

Almost.
It’s not (greater than 100% efficiency). That’s physically impossible.
It’s simply that we’ve use up more energy containing the reaction than the reaction releases.
So we are trying to get more than 0% efficiency.
