Rita has always been batshit crazy. Gets it from her mom.

It didn't become public until the inheritance became public, but she didn't just turn into a lunatic over night.

All women are.

but lucid Tom Benson thought enough of her to appoint her heiress, and groomed her as such for more than a decade. Even have her running the arena team and named executive VP of the Saints. She even helped him run the Hornets when he bought the team. She was the pick

for a man that made so many good business decisions, writing Rita out of the will was not one of them. Such a shortsighted decision, especially AFTER you had purchased a second franchise and had no true heir to the teams, or at worst, someone you had groomed to be in a hands-on ownership position once you've passed on.

A lot of Rita's behavior didn't become overt until after the Irrevocable Trust was set up.

At that point she thought she could do whatever she wanted. She was wrong.

That was wishful thinking on TB's part.

"He had hope for her" is probably a better way of saying it than to say that he thought enough of her.

Things were very awkward for a long time before anything became public. Tifwiw.
