Getting back into the gym for the first time in a while... need some ideas/workouts.

Quick rundown. Turned 40, gained several/many lbs. haven’t lifted in prolly 10+ years. Need to cut some weight and put some lean muscle back on for now. I’m still somewhat athletic, I played baseball in college and I put in 10-15 miles in week for cardio. I also do yoglates from time to time.
I’ve kinda read through some of the workout threads, but sill unsure of what to do. I can commit to 3-4 days a week. The diet part I can handle myself and seems to work when I stick to it. I just reach a plateau with no more weight loss short of starving myself.
That being said.... just trying to back into it. Joining a gym again and need a little advice on a workout to start out with for the next couple months.

Sign up for a CrossFit class.
They have the lesser version of it 3 times per week..basically for starters and not the super intense stuff.
If you’re just trying to lose weight and get cut, it’s the best option honestly.
You still workout with weights, get cardio and takes about an hour per session..you’ll sweat your arse off and will see massive improvements from month to month.
In the gym, you’ll just walk around, lift randomly here and there and not make much progress.
Plus I always do better with a coach and other people motivating me forward..

Start a linear program that is solidly laid out. Greyskull is posted all over here, and it is solid.
I also post about Candito's linear program, which is also very good. Here's a link to a thread:

Linear strength programs are ideal for your situation.

Take it slow at first. People who were athletes and worked out diligently for years often think they can just go in and go balls to the wall.
