Thank goodness I don't see them anymore, but a while back I would constantly be bombarded wiht commericals for samantha bee's show. And every.single.one. was the exact same routine; make an elementary-level joke about trump [canned laughter], dumb face, end.

Well now I'm seeing the same thing with commercials for trevor noah. I'd never heard of trever noah before seeing these commercials, but just on my limited exposure to the commercials I honestly fail to see how ANYONE can find him funny, am I missing something? Every promo of his is the same routine, painfully unfunny joke about either trump or republicans followed by dumb smirk. I'm not a political guy, IDGAS if people make fun of trump or republicans. It just bothers me so much that they are SO unfunny. Zero wit, no humor, no thought whatsoever involved in the punchlines. They almost all boil down to literally "our president sucks! hehe". How can a show like this sustain itself?

It’s been on since 1996. It’s always been this way except with different hosts. This isn’t anything new.

I do agree that Noah sucks. Definitely far from the best host.

I get what you’re saying but the dumb smirks and president bashing isn’t new. Hell, it’s hardly ever been funny. I think it’s more propaganda to further divide us.

Original show with Craig Killborn was pretty entertaining, IMO.

So you disagree? Why’s that? The left and the right continue to do this with their shows.

Go ahead and tell us your thoughts.

He's terrible. I don't agree with John Stewart's politics, but he was at least funny, and perfect for a show that mocks the news.

Because I don’t think the goal of the show is to “further divide us”.

He's objectively not funny and anyone arguing otherwise is either intentionally obtuse or pushing an agenda.

People get sick of of the same old routine night in and night out. They actually think people want to hear Trump bashing every 5 seconds

Theres a reason his ratings are so bad and Adult Swim shits all over their ratings

Noah's delivery sucks and yeah he opts for the low hanging fruit more often than not.

Yes Stewart was definitely a liberal but he was much funnier and more willing to call out both sides. Stewart would also bring on good guests with differing viewpoints and have pretty good conversations with them.

Because a certain segment of the population is devoted to having Orange Man Bad reinforced on a daily basis.

Here is my question for anyone in this thread that considers themselves to be left-leaning and watches the show. Do you actually laugh at most of Noah's segments or do you just agree with what he's saying?

Not trying to be a dick. Serious question.

that was kind of the overall point I was trying to make. You can have the exact same show format but at least have it be respectable, TN is just cringe-level unfunny.

having a different viewpoint doesn't make something funny

what? of course it does

I'm no fan of Trevor Noah, I haven't watched an episode on a long time because, like many have already stated, it's very much just low hanging fruit stuff about Trump, plus he lectures far too often (my wife will watch some Youtube clips on occasion).

I loved Last Week Tonight when it first began, but then Oliver fell into the Trump trap like most of these hosts have, which I find to be boring and repetitive

but I'm also not dumb enough to not know that this does appeal to certain people

it's human nature to seek affirmation

Trevor Noah provides that

His standup is funny, but the Daily Show with him as host is not. I think the problem is that Trevor forgot that the job is to make fun of the news, especially the news media, not to comment on it. John Stewart understood that. While he would bash republicans, it was typically in the context of poking fun at a news outlet’s coverage of that story. He also tended to hit the left fairly hard too. Trevor pretty much only takes shots at Trump, his comedic delivery needs work, and his writers clearly aren’t of the same caliber Stewart enjoyed for so long.
