thought everyone disliked TLJ though. No controversy there if we're all on the same page.
Oh ok yeah, you’re probably right. TLJ was almost universally hated. Same thing with some of the DC movies. Maybe black Panther then.

TLJ hands down
Anything that can be spun as political like TLJ, Black Panther, the female Ghostbusters, or even apparently Birdbox gets a lot of ire. Like these weren't great movies (Birdbox was ok), but we got some fricks around here that jump at getting offended by identity politics, whether it's actually there or not.

How was Black Panther controversial?
It was a movie with black superheroes, and it's the general criticism that the only reason it got the reception it did is because of race. Like it probably helped, but we also have some racist fricks around here looking for anything to offend their whiteness.
It's just another marvel superhero movie that I'll probably never bother to see.

Kids were getting days off from school to go to BP. There were fund raisers to help pay for tickets to the movie. BP was nominated for a fricking Academy Award. It currently has one of the highest RT scores in history. You would think that the film captured the return of Jesus Christ to the earth with all the praise heaped on it. In any rational universe it was a solid B to B+ movie.
TLJ shite all over its fans and then Disney told all of us that the only reason we didn't like it was because we are all bigots.
What a year for cinema.

The fact that it was able to connect with an audience that deeply is impressive in its own right. Let people enjoy things how they want to, I can imagine it must be awesome to be a young black kid and have a superhero finally that it’s a huge mainstream hit and feels more representative of what you are.
You can’t sit here and complain about Hollywood turning all these historically white roles into characters played by black actors while also deridding a movie for being able connecting with that audience while being an original concept at the same time.

I watched a political commentator on CNN say they were so happy black culture was finally on display in the movies.
What the frick?
Black Panther isn't real. It's no one's culture.
That's the stupidity equivalent of Feminists praising Wonder Woman for finally showing how women were historically badass

You have a weak understanding of the concept.
Most things that are culturally significant to people are not real or 100 percent accurate. A huge population of this world base their entire culture on ancient religions, and at the end of the day at least one of them has to be completely made up

Your culture is in pretty bad shape if you need a comic book to help prop it up.

The movie sucked, but there are also some bigots.

What does this mean and why do people keep saying it?
I've been watching super hero movies and anime since I was a kid I never once thought Goku or Vegeta were representative of who I was. Because they're not real.
This psychotic belief that Black Panther is representative of black culture is just that, psychotic. The movie is about a group of arse backwards tribesman who despite all of the money and technology in the world are still arse backward tribesmen. So... That's how you all view the black community, great, I wouldn't aspire to that.

It’s funny how the comments about why black panther is controversial has very little to do with the actual movie. It’s not the movie that’s controversial, it’s the media and general public perception that is. I agree that it’s way overhyped and not worthy of academy award noms, but that’s not the movies fault
Most people on here seemed to feel it was an average or decent comic book movie, but a movie like Drive had people that loved it and people that thought it sucked. That’s what I would consider to be controversial on this board

The thing that got me about BP was how it was spun as a positive that they purposely kept foreigners out. The very same people claim it's racist to do the same in real life.

I completely agree. I liked the movie, other than I cannot stand Michael B Jordon.

I generally like him, but I felt he was trying way too hard in BP. Way too over the top

Artistically brilliant but the plot is flawed

I mean certainly you can understand that your experience might not be the same one had by others right? And how growing up in a world that looks majorly like you might shape your view of that?
Again it’s not your place to decide what other people enjoy and what other people find culturally important to them. Live your own life and experience instead of getting upset at someone else’s

I feel like at the time of release it was more controversial than it is now. I think time has helped everybody settle into the fact that it was pretty awful.

some would say it's overrated, but i think the consensus was overwhelmingly liked.
it had an incredibly conservative message i thought at most... and was a subtle dig at SJWs at the least.
