Try Amboise. In the Loire Valley. About 2 1/2 hours by car. Not sure about trains to that area. Good wine very close by, a castle in the center of town, and the town where Da Vinci last lived & worked. Bike tours from here are popular.

Ditto on Amboise. We stayed at Hotel Le Choiseul and it has a Michelin Star restaurant (Le 36) at the property. You can see Chateau Chenonceau and Château de Chambord. Look at Day 1 - 3 on our blog below.
You could also try Beaune or Lyon (by train if you won't have a car). Look at Day 10 - 14 on our blog below.
