Question is, anyone started fishing for them? If so, what part of the state?

They were on fire in Avoyelles Parish last week. Not sure how this cold weather will impact the bite this weekend.

They were hitting really good about 2 weeks around Bayou Gauche, but they slacked off. South wind started and muddied up the water.
Few decent reports from Lockport Area. .... last Saturday, catching 12-20 on for the people that were fishing them.

Got them pretty good one afternoon earlier this week when it was warmer in southeast LA. They were shallow but only a few had eggs.

NWLA they just starting up under the deep docks. None had eggs yet.

Yes, in the part of the state where they are called White Perch and not Sacalait or Crappie. I love February warm spells.

Everything around here is high water. If only the Mississippi River would get back in it's banks. Heck, the wate is still all the way to the foot of the levels.

Thanks for the heads up. I told myself I will try to fish this year. Been well over 5 years from the last time I chased sacalait.

Don't need if you know how to read the water ways and know what to look for.

My grandfather could slay them with a cane pole, a cork and shiners.

Either buy a pond and stock it with crappie or find a friend who has a pond that is stocked. If neither of those are options, just do what the guys on tv do but accept that you are going to be miserable and frustrated until you can pull off option one or two.

I would recommend you taking a trip with JB Salter (RIP) if he was still around. He would teach you a lot about sacalait fishing and also about life. I haven’t forgotten about your comments about him in the past.

Hey, he could catch them, but I had a couple uncles that show him how. The man grow up with my uncles and my Mom. Knew the man as a teen and fished with him a few times. Oh, his rods were big POS, way to heavy.

Are you saying that his graphite rods were too heavy?
