Whites southerners were basically lied too. They were told the war was to protect their families. And in a sense that was true. But the real reason was to protect the status quo and the Planter class.

That's what I dont understand about some posters. Yes, it was brave of your ancestors to battle for what they believed. Unfortunately, it was a bad cause. Not bad because of their courage, but bad because they were taken advantage of by the Planter class who ironically valued his slaves labor over their life.
