OB, I’m starting to look for a new ATV and I am interested in the new Yamaha Kodiak 450. All reviews a seem to be really positive. Anyone have any experience with this bike? I think it’s been out for a couple of years.
Any input is appreciated.

Thx

I have no idea if they have anything in common, but I have a 2003 kodiak 450 and it has been an excellent bike. I’ve had to change a few gaskets/seals over the years, but other than the normal maintenance it has never needed work. Starts right up every time and does everything I ask of it. If it ever does give out and I need to buy a new bike, I’ll buy another Yamaha 450.

I have the '04 kodiak. Had to change bearings on the front end, thermostat, and both diffs have bad seals (haven't messed with that yet). A rat ate the wiring for the electric fan but that's not really Yamahas fault. Biggest problem with Yamaha is those bitches are so cold natured. After they warm up they run good though. Had to take the carburetor off several times because of not running it enough during the off season and stupid ethanol fuel gumming up. Been a good bike and somehow i still have the stock tires. Hopefully that changes this year.

Just my personal opinion but I'd buy used.

You can't go wrong with a Yamaha or Honda ATV

This is one of the local ATV dealers in Tuscaloosa

I would advise spending 500 more and getting the 700.

The 450 is a good unit, but it is not the same as the old 450.

Well honda only makes a 475

At what they are sold for, the yamaha is 500 more than the Honda for a 700. But the honda at msrp is like 7500.

The Yamaha 700 I saw on their website is $6,999. The Honda’s were running close to $9,000-10,000

Thanks for all the feedback. I was thinking about the 450 because the “midsized” frame would be easier for the wife and kids if they ride it. I will have to go take a look at the 700 to see the physical difference. I’ve got a 12 year old who may be on it as much or more than me!

I forgot most people don't live in a wholesaler state.

Foreman usually 6k

Kodiak 700 is 6500 most of the year with the 500 rebate or a winch or something.

Ok OB. I sold the Grizzly 125 to my brother in law so now I have to find a replacement bike for my 12 year old. I’ve been back and forth with buying a recon 250 for him or something bigger like the rancher 420 or Kodiak 450 that I can also jump on and use around the house. I’ve been researching this week and would like to find a gently used grizzly 350 or 450 (looks like 2014 was the last production year). Been searching FB and sportsman and ran across this 450, a little older than I would like but appears to be well kept and maintained. I sent a note to the seller asking about it. Anyone have anything to look out for on a 1007 Grizzly 450? TIA
Search continues. Have not visited Brookhaven Honda or ATV zone yet. I’ve been researching some used and like the idea of finding a used Grizzly 350 or 450. It won’t be too large for my 12 year old but I can

If you quote me on this, I'll deny it.

But for a kid who's going to destroy it, it doesn't matter what you get.

Put insurance on it and wait for him to inevitably sink it.

That’s funny and sadly it’s probably true and the exact reason I’m hesitant to buy new. When he rode the hell out of his little 125 and brought it back covered in mud and weeds I just chuckled because it didn’t really matter. I think I will go this route and continue to look for a used non snorkeled non lifted bike in relatively good condition. Back up will be to buy a new Recon 250.

Given the discount on new and the price of insurance. Buy new. You'll make out like a bandit if something happens

My 07 Big Bear 400 is definitely cold-natured but runs well when it warms up.

Don't use ethanol gas in any small engine, especially a carbed engine. I had to clean my carb out 3-4 times to finally get it to work right.

Definitely get some better tires, stock Honda and Yamaha tires are pretty basic.

I have Vampires on the back and Super Swampers on the front of mine, and it pulls well. Kenda Bearclaws are pretty decent tires too.

I looked at them hard, but ended up going with a Can Am Outlander 570. I just wasnt comfortable with the handlebar placement on the Kodiak 450. I would NOT let a teenager drive my Can Am, way too powerful and fast. I would get a Honda rancher and let it eat.
