Is this considered one of the best solos of all time? Has to be right?
Yes.
Listening to that album at night in the middle of the California desert after a bowl or two...nothing like it.

I was just thinking this the other day, and now there's the other thread about David GIlmour selling the black strat. Must be something in the air.

As I get older, I can personally relate to the lyrics more and more. As for the solo...it is primo.

Tone is basically the sound a guiarist tries to achieve. That's as good as I can explain it. Gilmour's sound was unmistakable. You can hear his work, and immediately know who it is.
Tom Scholz's work is unmistakable. When you hear it, you know it's him.
The Edge's work with U2 is distinctive.

This song is permanently imprinted into my brain.
That entire side is just incredible most especially Time-GGIS.

Though I know I am obsessed with everything that they wrote, I listen to DSOtM at least three times per week. Time is one of those songs that I can never get tired of. Another would be Echoes. As for solos, I agree Time is up there. The ending of Pigs is one of my favorites along with Dogs as well.

When I think of tone, I think of Santana.
Then I think of "Winning," and I don't know what to think.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned solo in “Fat Old Sun”. Incredibe guitar work.

How much credit should Alan Parsons get for Dark Side of the Moon?
About a decade ago, I stumbled upon a few articles and was convinced that Parsons took those great songs and made them even greater with the production layers and 'voices' that you hear in some songs. Maybe even to the point of making certain parts sync with The Wizard of Oz.

Pretty sure the voices and most of the sound effects were the band's idea. Parsons did record the clocks in an old antique store and micing instruments, etc. Pink Floyd were very technically minded in terms of what the recording studio could do; they did push Parsons pretty hard about making that come about.

It is a great song overall. The version on live in Gdansk is especially good.

Agree with time being masterful and likely their best, but one that I don't see mentioned much that gets me everytime is towards the end of "wots, uh..the deal". It's not very long and it's not a shredding facemelter, just Gilmour at the lap steel guitar but it is just so beautiful. I can't think of a better way to describe it, just simply beautiful music.

Listening to this whole side whilst out enjoying a pipe (tobacco) and hazy ipa poolside. What a way to turn a normal Sunday evening into a great chill. Drum solo before time on right this second.

You actually described it pretty well

Agreed! That version of Fat Old Sun is one of my all time favorite songs.

In the process of learning that solo as we speak. It's got some crazy bends in it. His division bell tone is probably my holy Grail guitar tone.
Gilmour is the absolute king of putting "feeling" into his solos and riffs. Most of his stuff is not difficult to play from a technical standpoint, but he was truly a genius at composing. He can make 3 notes sound like a fricking masterpiece.
The time solo is a great example at the beginning with the intense bends.
Also one of my favorite riffs of his that is so simple but awesome is "In the Flesh" from The Wall.

I have always contended that Gilmour > Waters and gotten lots of shite for it over the decades. I know. And apparently yall know it too. This makes me happy.

Honestly, Its not even debatable.

Love what Roger did. It was masterful but Gilmour > Waters
Plus I despise Rogers political agenda. Its gotten old and he should have chilled by now. He is too old to be so hateful.
