Is this considered one of the best solos of all time? Has to be right? The whole song is a masterpiece.

The entire song is brilliant. It's the perfect song, musically and lyrically...

I'm listening to this very loudly on my bar's jukebox right now as I finish cleaning. I have it very loud. The solo is just straight orgasmic. Each note is gold.

FTFY

And, but for a few hiccups here or there, "masterpiece" isn't hyperbole for the entire catalogue - certainly from Meddle through The Wall.

I’ve heard it a million times but yet I still get goosebumps during the solo. The song is timeless and was light years ahead of its time.

It's fantastic but Comfortably Numb needs to be included on your list.

Dark Side of the Moon is an experience. It's more than music. Great album.

Comfortably Numb solo is great as well but Time is incredible.

That's how I feel. There's nothing missing, misplaced or overdone.

I agree. It's a musical representation of what great art should be.

The tone of the stratocaster really shines on this song.

In the process of learning that solo as we speak. It's got some crazy bends in it. His division bell tone is probably my holy Grail guitar tone.

The Floyd constructed songs with this end state in mind. They weren't savants. "Genius" is thrown around too much - and a good bit of this borders on it, but come on - after all this is just pop music at the end of the day.

But, it truly is masterpiece quality art. Virtually any competent composer can come up with/rework something that is catchy. Most brooding poets can come up with memorable lyrics that fit the song.

With Pink Floyd there is this balance between noise and quiet, light and dark, shadow and glare that permeates through the lyrical content, the vocals, the instrumentation.

Roger's pretentious Marxism aside, they crafted those songs to be a memorable musical "experience" for lack of a better phrase and they succeeded beyond their wildest imaginations.

If you could read both of my posts in the thread - in their entirety for context, I think the answer is quite clear.

I am one of those people who have it at or near the very top.

Except for all those freakin' bells at the beginning. If I'm driving I have to make sure the volume's down for this part.

Back in college I slept on a friend's couch one night. The next morning he put his Bose 901's on either side of me and cranked that part. I think that's when my tinnitus started.

What was that?

I just listened to both (comfortably Numb and Time) on vinyl.

They're both incredible. What sets it apart for me is that last minute and a half solo on Comfortably Numb. That sequence moves me emotionally. I feel it in my gut and every note is telling a story.
