Winner of $1.5 billion Mega Millions lottery last October has not claimed the ticket

Maybe someone bought the ticket while drunk and forgot about it?
quote:
The winner still has three months to turn over the ticket to state lottery officials and become instantly mega rich. But three months have gone by with no word from whoever bought the winning ticket at a convenience store in Simpsonville.
quote:
If the winner doesn’t surface before the 180-day deadline, the state will still collect a portion — though much less — as the entire pot will be divided among all states participating in the Mega Millions contest, based on each state’s percentage of total sales, Rainwater said.
quote:
The identity of the winner of the nation’s second-largest lottery jackpot might never be known, even if he or she does contact lottery officials before the deadline. South Carolina is among a handful of states that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.

I have needed a lot of time planning what to do with the jackpot. I will be making the claim soon.

Waiting to claim it until as many people as possible have forgotten about it

more like they are finalizing plans for leaving the country and a name change.
there will be hundreds of people making plans to come after whatever part of that money they can get by any means necessary including kidnapping family members.
that type of money destroys your life so you must start a new one and leave everything and everyone you know behind.
that said, i wouldnt mind having such problems

Setting up LLC and bank accounts to handle it all and maintain anonymity.

Dude probably had a heart attack after finding out he won.

You can literally look up a list and find 10000s of people richer than this lottery winner

I figured they would have collected the week between Christmas and New Years to avoid the media attention.

It doesn't take 3 months to do that.
I like my theory better. I think the gas station where it sold has bars on the windows.

If this individual is so burdened by his (mis)fortune, I'll be a good human being and bear this cross for him or her.

If they wait till close to the deadline the media attention will get turned up.
Not implausible somebody lost the ticket I suppose

Your average lotto winner spends his entire paycheck on tickets and booze and believes a million dollars would be literally endless. Then they go broke fast

Could be part of office pool and everybody has to set up that shite.

I am denying the part about having to change your name and go into hiding in order to live a safe and productive life

SC is one of the states that allows you to claim anonymously.
