I have a 229 legion in 357sig. Overall it's an extremely nice gun. It shoots great, has been perfectly reliable. The sights, trigger, ergonomics, everything about it are great from a functional standpoint.

The finish on it however is not so great. I carry mine daily and I have to pull the side plates off and clean the decocker lever and other controls or they will rust. For a $1000+ pistol that's a letdown. It's not a big deal but it does suck.

Overall I love the thing. Is it worth what it costs? Probably not, it goes bang just like a glock goes bang. It is a very nice gun that is well put together and easy to shoot and carry though. Doing it again I'd probably make the same purchase, except maybe get a 226 instead since the 229 is pretty big already.

I have 2 p226 but not a p229. I love both of the 226s and wouldn't mind getting another 226 or 229

I have P228 in 9 mm that I bought from Barneys Police Supply in 2010 as a State Police trade-in for ~$400 (as I recall). I love it

I have a P226 and P229. Both are in 9mm and are great guns and go bang every time I pull the trigger. Both are very accurate but I tend to shoot the P229 a little better.

While I would never rule out a Glock.. I actually prefer a DA/SA handgun.

Most people who own 229's don't actually carry them.
(Of course that's also true of most M&P and Glock owners.)

But if you're going to actually carry on a serious (EDNDO) basis, get an M&P or a Glock. They weigh less, plus you'll only have to master one trigger pull.

If you're really committed to practicing enough to master the DA/SA trigger, ignore the second clause in the preceding sentence.

If you're not committed to that level of practice (a few thousand rounds), but are still committed to carrying a SIG, I guess you could get one with the DAK trigger.

I have the 229 legion as well in 9mm. I echo this sentiment.

I definitely prefer DA/SA for the safety. The long first trigger pull helps keep you from glock legging yourself but theres still no active safeties to disengage on the draw.

I like being able to see the hammer in the down position and having the de-cocking lever. It's heavier but the weight adds stability.
You can find factory certified police turn-ins for less money than brand new guns. I have an FBI gun that looks like it's never been used and got it for six bills.
Nothing takes the place of firing the gun a couple hundred rounds when acquired then periodic practice.

I’ve got a p229 40. It’s a fine pistol. The DA/SA was a huge selling point for me. I wish all of my pistols were DA/SA.

I’ll also add that I am not a fan of the Glock. I may buy one eventually, but I just can’t see myself buying anything but a Sig for the foreseeable future.

I have a late 1990s vintage P229 in .40 ACP. Great gun. Great quality. Great shooter.

After having owned a Glock 23 and shooting them side by side awhile, I decided to get out of the plastic gun game and go all metal classic Sigs of which I was already a fan. I'm probably going to get a P229 in 9mm at some point in the next 2 or 3 years. I have a P226, P220 and P245 as well.

Was able to handle the Nitro version of the P229 last night. Really liked the grip and feel in my hand. Felt much more natural to me than other similar handguns including the Glock 19 and 17.

Premium price is a bit of a put off but I am a bit of a Sig fan boy..

My only concern at this point is the size/weight of the handgun because this would be my conceal carry firearm.

Thanks for everyone's input...

I have one in .40 and bought the .357Sig barrel for it.

Its a great gun and one of my best shooters.

ETA: shot all types of ammo through it and haven’t had a lock of trouble.

Uncle Sam trained on p226 9mm, currently belt holster carry Glock 22 40 daily, have a s&w shield 40 that I never carry, still in love with my p229 40. Hogue grips make it amazing. Only regret is not getting one with a rail.

Obviously, this isn’t a carry gun, but I’ve shot several thousand rounds through it without an issue. Every time I pull the trigger it goes bang, or actually, pfffft.
