That's right boys and girls. The democrats are costing us MORE than President Trump has requested for border security
We are already at $3,6 billion
withing 2 weeks, and maybe sooner, the Schumer Shutdown will wind up being more expensive than President's Trump's modest request for border security funding
Muh principles

Shutdown Has Cost U.S. Economy $3.6 Billion So Far
quote:
THE U.S. ECONOMY HAS lost $3.6 billion because of the ongoing partial government shutdown, according to an analysis by Standard & Poor's Global Ratings. It will only take another two weeks for the shutdown to cost the economy $5.7 billion – the same amount that the White House has requested for President Donald Trump's border wall.
The shutdown on Friday tied the longest in U.S. history at 21 days. If the shutdown continues, the per-week impact will balloon beyond the roughly $1.2 billion that have been lost each week since it began, S&P found.

Democrats are soft-brained people who would rather talk about trash piling up in a park.
Billions of dollars doesn’t matter.
Billions of dollars doesn’t matter.

Money doesn’t matter to them, look at the debt

Why does closing something cost $5.7 more than it would if it was open?

Why does closing something cost $5.7 more than it would if it was open?
for another, there is a backlog of work that needs to be caught up on & productivity will suffer when the employees are back on the job
there are also intangibles i the private sector; licenses are not being issued and we are losing tax revenues

It doesn’t, except that everyone is who not working will still get paid when this is over.

So I get the messaging, but this isn’t on the Legislative Branch.
The House voted to pass appropriations legislation that would reopen the government without the funds requested by Trump for a wall, which had previously passed the Senate unanimously when it appeared Trump would be willing to sign it. However, Trump returned to demanding funds for the wall and said he would veto any bill that did not provide them. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has in turn blocked the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate from considering any further appropriations legislation that Trump will not support, even the bill he previously allowed to pass.
So...although Congress Is tasked with appropriations and the Executive runs the government within the funds provided, in this case the Executive is holding the Legislative Branch hostage over a pet issue, despite a mid-term election during which this topic was addressed.
Hard to call it the Schumer Shutdown once proper context is applied.

Except the house promised that the wall funding would be in the next appropriations bill last year.
Trump asked for 5B in a 4T budget. The house has said no.
The house refuses to compromise. Why won't democrats act in a bipartisan manner?

The 5 billion covers a relatively small section of the border, and likely the cheapest and easiest part to build on. What is the full plan? Is there one? What sort of immigration reduction is the first $5billion expected to achieve? No one knows, and no Trump supporter seems to care. They just want the "win".

but this isn’t on the Legislative Branch.

The President has made it clear to the Senate that he will sign nothing if the wall is not included. The House gave the Senate a bill. The Senate will not bring a bill—or a CR—that does not include wall funding. Technically you could blame McConnell I guess for withholding the vote, but he’s basically just acknowledging the futility of passing a DOA bill.

How is it a compromise to give the president whatever he wants?

Immigration reform efforts run aground in Senate. In February of 2018, the Senate capped off an acrimonious several weeks of debate and negotiation with the President by defeating four different immigration plans. The one offered by GOP Senators with the most money for the border wall – $25 billion – received just 39 votes, the least amount of support of any of the immigration packages voted on by Senators. There was also a bipartisan immigration plan which included $25 billion for border security, paired with a 10-12 year pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrant “Dreamers.” That plan received 54 votes, but short of the 60 needed. Republicans and the President could have secured funding for the President’s wall with this plan, backed by Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) – but it was opposed by most GOP Senators because of the DACA provisions. No compromise – no wall.

The height of establishment propaganda.
By this "logic" the government costs Americans billions (if not trillions) annually with industry that would otherwise be privately operated.
But you gotta love the spin - Americans lose without its big, bloated government.

quote:Yeah, the initial ask of $25B answers the question "what's next?", doesn't it? So then what's after that?
POTUS wanted $25B in funding. Dems gave him nothing. Trump said he'd settle for $5.7B. Dems gave him nothing.
So if Trump himself acknowledges that at least $25B should be spent to be meaningful, how is asking for less money for less wall a compromise? If anything, spending $5B for a small section of wall is actually a WORSE deal than spending $25B for something that might show results. Speaking of results, does anyone have any projections on the impact any proposed wall might have?
