Guys ITT trying to downplay losing Raymond to Georgia would be a disaster. He'd start plucking recruits from Louisiana. You also probably end up burning bridges with an LSU guy who could be a potentially big name coach in the future.
People saying all he did was extend what Cooper did...well how's that working out for LSU on the dline now? Once upon a time LSU use to be called dline-U. They had 3 first round picks on their line with a second rounder too. Sonic Sam would've been a 1st if he wasn't an idiot before draft. LSU use to be so deep on the line that year that they even got Edwards drafted as a reserve in the 3rd? How's that working out for LSU now with all the mediocre defensive lines we had since? How quickly you lose status when you allow a shitty coach to muck a position up in recruiting/public perception.
Raymond gives LSU consistency, is arguably the best DB coach in NCAA, is an elite recruiter and has deep roots into LSU. What more could you ask? It's hard to get a coach that's great at both coaching/recruiting. Right now LSU is the premiere university for DBs and one shitty hire could degrade that prestige fast especially if Busch leaves relatively quickly too. LSU will survive but the sting would be much bigger than any of you give credit to.
