I'm friends with his wife and youngest son. Wish I'd gotten to meet the man himself.

So many of his stats in life and basketball were incomprehensible. He was truly amazing. The world still misses Pistol Pete.

I had the honor of meeting Pete personally in those days. His roommate was a point guard from Indiana named Jeff Tribbit. We had several classes together and w/alphabetical seating (maybe still do that) we always sat almost next to each other.

I would go over to the Jock Dorm and study w/him occasionally and got to meet and speak w/Pete.

He was a really great guy. VERY humble and not at ALL 'ego'd' out for the attention he was getting..

I was very sad to hear the news 40 years ago today...

It was amazing how packed the old Cow Palace would be when Pete was on the freshman team. After the freshman game, half the crowd would leave. By half time of the varsity game with us usually behind half of those who had stayed then left. By the end of the varsity game you could sit anywhere you wanted because there would be only a few hundred left.

That all changed when Pete went to the varsity squad.

I was telling someone about that the other day. I was a freshman in 66 and as I remember if you didn't get to the game at least an hour early you didn't get in with an activities card.

I know it's been brought up before, but as I recall Pete shot a set shot from 20+ feet and made at least 5 a game. . .would have averaged 50 for his career if the line was in place back then

Pete's 3-point percentage - NBA put in the 3-pointer in
Pete's last season, 1979-80 - Pete played for two teams that season:

Utah Jazz - 63.6%
Boston Celtics - 75%

I had season tickets for the Jazz that year - the moron Jazz coach hated Pete's free-wheeling style. Traded him as fast as he could. Idiot
quote:

Pete Maravich was to basketball what Jimi Hendrix was to Rock & Roll...way before his time....LEDGENDS.....GOAT..

!00% agree - Pete changed the game.

Pistol Pete was the greatest ball handler/passer to ever play the game. He also could shoot the ball. But his ball handling/passing has never been equaled.

I was a senior at LSU at that time. Right before his death, he reinvolved himself in the basketball program a bit. He made an appearance at a game. Then a few weeks later, he passes away.
