Anyone have a deck made out of Brazilian hardwood Ipe? How do/did you treat it and how is it holding up?

supposedly one of the subcontractors has a hookup. If it's the same price as composite, then it's a wash b/c that's what I was looking at.

Ipe is extermemly hard wood! It also has very potent sap, need to wear protective clothing especially if you're cutting or sanding. i would think its also expensive but I never purchased. I've heard of it on very high end homes but never a deck although I think it would work great for that purpose. The combination of its hardness and the sap makes it quite durable. They must have some really nasty bugs on the Amazon for a tree to evolve with such strong protection.

Very expensive, needs good air flow, and will fade to grey. I haven’t seen it but a deck guy told me it will spider crack as well.
It’s hard, a pain to cut, and will need to be pre-drilled.
I’ve only used it in covered cladding locations.

90% of it will be covered except for the 2 steps down into the yard.

Everything I have seen indicates it is a great product. I had plans to replace my dock with it last spring till I got distracted with other stuff. It will grey, like cypress, if you don't put a coat of finish on it. It will last 50-70 years, it is very dense and expands and contracts very little, you do have to pre-drill holes for screws. There is a poster that has connections in Mobile, the prices I saw were less than composite...

As I understand it, it does not need to be treated.
Very deep brown color
Very expensive.

It's beautiful, and I was looking at using it for decking until I read how environmentally unsound it is. Basically you can't trust the loggers down there and even of you spend extra on "sustainable" product, chances are it's a lie.
