This is a really dumb question: When do you harvest carrots? My wife and daughter planted seeds and they were forgotten about. Of course wife cant remember when. In fact I planted squash right next to them because I didnt know. The carrots stalks are over 12" high now and surprisingly doing well under shade of squash leaves.
Do I just pull one to check and replant if not ready?

If the crown of the carrot is about 1.5 to 2 inches, pull it.
You can over winter them, but once the ground warms up they will rot if you leave them in the ground.
