Also, theres also a chance that more people on here have seen Princess Mononoke than they have the Sword and the Stone. It got more votes in the nomination round
And that’s because some people just listed out the Sword in the Stone at random (with one exception who said it was the greatest ever which is clearly wrong) because they watched it when they were kids. The people that listed Princess Mononoke though know animation on at least a basically educated level. It’s like putting The Godfather or Lawrence of Arabia on your list for greatest films ever. There’s no way imjustafatkid has ever seen Princess Mononoke. I’m willing to bet the only Japanese animation he’s ever seen is Pokémon and Dragonball Z. And if I’m not mistaken on our most recent MWADS list, Princess Mononoke finished the third highest of any animated movie after WALL-E and The Lion King.
The list is moot if Princess Mononoke loses to a bottom feeder such as the Sword in the Stone, and even if Spirited Away loses to a decent film like the Brave Little Toaster. If I start putting it into war, comedy, or action film terms, people will realize how insulting it is for Mononoke to lose to one of Disney’s most forgettable films.
