It's currently slated to be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Expecting run-of-the-mill design from them is probably a mistake.

Is it going to be an animated movie? Because that's mainly what they've done. If it's animated it would be much easier to do a true look a like Rocky.

Before bed last night, I was reading like the last 15% of Morning Star. Good grief. I was only going to read a chapter because I was tired, then I ended up speedreading like 3-4 chapters because I first got so pissed at what was going on (The Cassius release) that I had to keep reading to find resolution... then so pumped on the resolution that I had to keep reading. I'm not sure I've ever scan/read over descriptions and such so quickly to get to the actual events that were occurring since reading Tom Clancy's tedious technology descriptions back in junior high.

Anybody else read the Frontlines series by Marko Kloos? It’s military sci fi about a war against some very peculiar and initially unstoppable giant T. Rex-like aliens. The 9th and final (?) book was just released. I’ve really enjoyed it. Premise sounds silly but it’s actually very grounded and serious with plenty of action. Great world building as the protagonist has very gradually worked his way up the ranks.

I really liked the Lightbringer series for the most part.
I just read the first book in the Night Angel series and wow. It's kind of a mess. Reviews don't seem to have much problem with it, but I just found it to be sort of... all over the place with the characters and their interactions and the world building.
It definitely got better toward the end, but it just seemed to insert a lot of random characters in without really fleshing them out or explaining much about them. And it seems to often do it within a chapter, so you don't have like a formatting clue that it's shifting to an entirely different region, area, or timeline.

I personally found Night Angel more consistent than Lightbringer, and better overall.
But I found Kip annoying as hell, so that always drug the series down for me. Gavin was awesome though. But even with Kip annoying me, I thought the ending was the weakest book.

Re-reading Abercrombie but doing it in chronological order.
Currently on Best Served Cold. Man this is so good. Some very underrated characters. One of the benefits of having a terrible memory is that everything has been like reading it for the first time. Which is sad in a way, but o well. Reading The Blade itself and I couldn't even remember if Jezal won the contest or not
Also, I always considered Logan my favorite character, but I think I actually like Glokta a little better now.

I made the mistake of starting the second trilogy before reading the stand alone books, so I was a little lost on who was who.
The wife got me Sharp Ends for Christmas. It's short stories from the First Law universe. The first is about Glokta before he was captured by the Gurkish.
edit: I just went a couple of pages back, and I already mentioned not reading the stand alones. Plus you were the one who half-heartedly recommended Sharp Ends.

Yea I made the mistake with Sharp Ends as reading it as a prequel. I should have read each of the short stories in chronological order because it was a bit of a jumbled mess all at once. It's definitely not just a prequel book. The majority of them are actually post 1st Law trilogy.

Ok, I read the story last night in Sharp Ends about the thief running a smoke shop, and the barbarian lady she rescues from the street.
Am I supposed to know who any of these people are? Because I don't recognize them from the books.

I think this was the one with Shy? She is a main character in Red Country. If that's the one I'm thinking about, it was one of the better one's imo. I'm going to re-read it before I re-read Red Country but it's not essential to read for sure. Kind of like an action bonus chapter.

The 1st chapter is about Glokta and the last chapter is about Bethod/Logan. It gives you background of what type of guy Glokta was before he was tortured and the story of why Bethod and Logan had a falling out. If you were only going to read two, I'd read those. Both add some good perspective to main characters.

They are pretty much new for those stories. Shy shows up in a different name in her story, but those two are brand new characters just in that book.

Just want to throw out a recommendation for a relatively new author named Ryan Cahill and his series The Bound and the Broken. 3 books of 5 out so far.
It's a perfect series so far for anyone who is a fan of Jon Gwynne's Faithful and the Fallen stuff.
