I loved Project Hail Mary. Subjectively probably not as good as The Martian but I actually enjoyed it more

Martian was really good, but the part where he's trying to make it to the landing site in the rover took. fricking. forever.

I've heard good things about Hail Mary.

I second Hail Mary. Really enjoyed it.

Also recently finished Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect. Short read that really sticks with you. Highly recommend.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, or Half a Kind by Joe Abercombie to read next.

The half a king trilogy is pretty solid, though not nearly as good as any of his First Law world stuff. Haven't read the Weir book.

The Kings of the Wild duology is fantastic.

I listened to Project Hail Mary on audio book. I normally do better reading than I do listening, but I %100 recommend it on audiobook. It was incredible. The reader just captured right away. It's for sure my favorite Andy Weir book.

I'd have to think about it some more but it was one of the best endings to any book, ever, for me. Even just the last few sentences. So many emotions stirred up in just a few sentences.

I actually listen to more audiobooks than I read actual books these days.

And I agree Project Hail Mary was a superb listen

Any of y’all done Malazan Book of the Fallen? Just finish 4 House of Chains and the book was great until the end. Kinda fell flat? Liked 1 and 2 loved 3 Memories of Ice was a banger but that finish and it looks like book 5 is starting all new characters again… Just curious anyone else’s thoughts. Please no spoilers past book 4 thank you!

Malazan is one of my top finished fantasy series. The front half of the series is stronger than the last half, but it finishes well in the last book.

Book 5 is up there with book 3 as my favorite of the series.

Tried Malazan years ago and just couldn’t get into it. I need to try it again.

I'm about 130 pages into this book, and I'm really enjoying it.

Something just happened that has delved into more science fiction, than a fiction book with science in it like The Martian was.

Just finished Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. Not traditional SciFi, as it weaves together three timelines, only one of which is in the future. It's a very literary work, but it's also extremely accessible and enjoyable.

I tried it 10 plus years ago when I finished up college and I think got 5 books in. Didn’t remember much but some names when I started it back up, but I’ve gotten a lot more into fantasy last couple years so that has helped.

My wife just finished The Hobbit for the first time and is now on Fellowship. She texted me a few days ago "Is Strider a bad guy?"

I am asking her questions all the time about where she is because I love seeing someone read it for the first time.

Tom Bombadil was kind of a hard one to explain to her. Just did a brief explanation of Eru and the Valar and told her he was one of the Valar and the most powerful person on earth. All arguable but that's at least my very shortened opinion.

the ending man, just incredible. The whole book is great, but that is one of the best endings to a book ever.

My wife just passed the mines of moria in FotR. Gandalf was her favorite character so far so she's a little upset.
