I have discussed this with some young left wing adults (20s to 30s). Their motivation stems from a general distaste for the concept of work.
They see work as consuming the majority of your time on earth so that you can't do the stuff you like doing. They see collectivism as a way for them to survive while doing as little as possible in the area of earning wages.
It has nothing to do with justice or fairness. It's very self centered.
