And no. I think if Nick Bosa is healthy, he's playing in the Cotton or Orange Bowl.

All low character. Nothing surprising

Odd from a Michigan fan considering what happened to Jake Butt who tore an ACL in a bowl game and dropped several rounds in the draft.

Cost Butt money ,but Jim Harbaugh got a nice 6 figure pay out.

You should read more. Read what the coaches and his teammates had to say about it, and just maybe what Nick himself had to say.

I mean of course they are all going to say the right things. OSU does a good job with that and always has.

Your own article says this:

quote:

It was gut-wrenching, but for his health and the future, this is the right thing to do. He’ll have time to focus and be absolutely perfect in March and the [draft] combine.”

He could have stayed with the school and team if he really wanted to. He didn't. It's fine that he made a decision for his future, but don't act like he is all-in for OSU when he pulled out of school in October

So now we don't care about what others in the situation have to say about it? I can't keep up with you there...

I never said otherwise. I said that he's not "skipping a bowl game" because he isn't. All indications are that he wouldn't be ready to play in the bowl game.

Unlike others on this site, I'm not going to engage in trench warfare with you on this.

In my opinion, if Nick Bosa was healthy and OSU was playing in the Rose Bowl, he would not be playing.

If he could have been healthy in 12 weeks, and then gotten into game shape for a month, he could have helped the team in a playoff game or a NY6 game. He chose to leave school instead. 12 weeks from his injury puts you at the 8th, 12 weeks from his surgery, about the 11th or 12. That's 3 weeks to get into some sort of game condition to help the team (even on a 15-20 snap count limit). Again, he chose not to do so

Can schools buy insurance policies for players that will protect against injury?

Yes, but it still won't cover the total anticipated lost wages. For example, Jake Butt

I think Butt paid for it himself but I'm not certain. Perhaps some Michigan fans closer to the situation can confirm.

quote:

The Denver Broncos selected Butt with the first pick of the fifth round at No. 145 overall, ending a slide stemming from his torn ACL in the Orange Bowl against Florida State.

Butt had taken a $2 million loss-of-value policy that he started collecting insurance on when he wasn't picked in the top half of the third round Friday night.

He first started collecting, at $10,000 a pick tax-free, in the middle of the third round, a source with knowledge of the policy with ISI told ESPN. By being passed over in the fourth round as well, Butt was set to receive $543,000 on the policy.

That's fine. You're entitled to your opinion.

And as I already said, I think if Nick Bosa was healthy, we're not even in the Rose Bowl and he's playing in the Cotton or Orange Bowl. You've provided absolutely nothing that refutes that.

I mean, don't take my word for it. Here's a little something from Nick himself:

quote:

Nick said the pursuit of a national championship — like his brother Joey was a part of in 2014 — is what he dwells on the most.

“Just thinking about the feeling that would come in winning a ‘natty’ with all of my friends I have built here, it would be amazing, I’m sure,” Nick said. “They’re just such good teammates, and a national title would be a culmination of things.

“It would just feel like a waste if we didn’t get one, because I feel like we’re that good. I don’t see why any other team should be better than we are.”

Yeah...he'd be playing if he could. That's what Nick said. Not his dad, and not Buckeye06.

quote:

If

Yeah, if. But he was given middle or late December as a return from his injury, with no practice and no live contact. It would be a poor decision for anyone, but the right one...again, because of his injury.

OSU is 30 points/game better with Bosa?

On Monday, top NC State WR Kelvin Harmon announced he wouldn’t be playing in the Wolfpack’s Gator Bowl appearance against Texas A&M.

Harmon had 75 catches for 1,119 yards and six touchdowns this year — the yards and touchdowns being team-high totals.

If I was sitting there in college and I was told that in April, you’re gokng to make tens of millions of dollars (hell, even just millions) and I have two options: a) do something multiple times where there is a decent chance I might lose everything or b) do nothing, I’m doing nothing.

Updated to add NC State WR Kelvin Harmon and South Carolina WR Deebo Samuel.

Damn. Loved watching Samuel play.

I wouldn't put Bosa on a list of "players skipping bowl games," asterisk or not. He was injured with his earliest date for return was mid-December, and that's not even considering getting game-ready physically.

I debated adding him.

So many WRs, what a bunch of little bitches

So rare for an injury at the position. What a shame

Its not really that bad. Especially when everything besides the playoff games are glorified exhibition matchups.

I don’t blame anyone for focusing on their future earnings over a bowl game.

It is the diva position.

In reality, it does suck as a fan to see so many great players that won't be participating in these games, because I really enjoy watching them play. In four or five years are we going to have 50 players sitting out? I think that's a strong possibility.

At some point it's going to be whenever a guy's team has been eliminated from the conference race or the playoff conversation. I think that day is coming pretty soon also.

I don’t have a problem with that. Why put anymore miles on your body if you are locked for 1st RD selection.
