Howdy OB, long time listener first time caller here. I have had my finished 6.5 Grendel AR-15 for about a year now and I am (finally) looking to upgrade from my iron sights to a nicer optic. I've got a couple I am looking at now but want some outsider input. This will be used primarily as a spot and stalk hog gun with the occasional sitting in a stand and hunting hogs/deer.

I currently have my sights on (punintended) Trijicon ACOG in either 4x32 or 3.5x35, Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-12.5x42, and Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42mm CDS-ZL2.

Any opinion on these options or any other potential options within my budget? Budget does not include nice mounts but if anyone has recommendations on those I am all ears.

I'm no expert but I feel like you can get away with a much cheaper glass for a gun that you don't plan on shooting over 200 yards with

VORTEX DIAMONDBACK TACTICAL 4-16X44 FFP RIFLESCOPE $450

I second the SWFA recommendation. They are having a sale right now. The FFP 3-15x42 with a 30 mm tube is marked down to 500 from 700. Probably the best value as far as glass goes, they’re very rugged and keep zero after you beat it around. Made in Japan. I love both of mine and have had Zeiss, Leupold, Vortex. No expert by no means but for the money, they are DAMN good

I actually have that exact scope on my 6.5 grendel. The diamondback FFP with 30mm tube doesn’t compare to the other diamondbacks IMO. Retail is 450$ but I found it on eBay for 250$ a month ago. Really nice scope for the gun and I also agree with mylsuhat that for less than 200yds, 1000$ is a lot to spend on a scope.

I have this one on mine:

Leupold vx-hd5 3-15x44 30mm

It's an amazing scope. Actually considering putting it on a better rifle.

I really like the Burris xtreme tactical rings. I have several sets of them.

. That was actually not long after we moved into my brand new house, and my dishwasher developed a small leak out of the bottom. Ruined about $1,500 worth of flooring.

I have 2 ACOGS. One in a micro 2x20 on my PS90 and the other is a TA11 with red reticle. They have unbelievable glass quality. I can hit steel with the pd90 at 200 yds no problem. I hunt with the TA11 on an AR pretty often. Go with ACOG and you won’t regret it.

I have an 18” 6.5 Grendel that I use for deer. Mine has a Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-10x56 on it. I love mine for hunting. Took a deer with it last year with like 1-2 minutes left of shooting time and could still see it clear as day through the scope. It’s a really good low light scope. I think you can find them around $700-800 now.

Thanks all for the recommendations. All very solid advice and making my decision even harder

For some reason I am extremely drawn to the ACOG but the only thing holding me back is they don't make one specifically for the 6.5 grendel round. Trying to figure out if the ballistics are close enough to another round they do have a reticle for.

Vortex Viper PST Gen II

I have one on my grendel AR setup. FFP, illuminated recital, and zero-stop (which I thought I'd never use, but use more than I thought). 3-15x44
