O vs Payton Regarding O-line

Sean Payton was asked today about the success of the Saints O-line this year. His response, “they are smart, they are tough, they understand what you’re doing...does the SCHEME fit the strengths of those guys?”
But O told me scheme doesn’t matter and it’s all about having the biggest and best? I’m confused. Payton must be wrong.

Well, Payton has clearly fixed what was the Saints' biggest liability. Maybe O needs to go spend a few weeks in Nola with Payton during the recruiting dead period.

It’s beyond time to get rid of the
zone blocking scheme at LSU.

There isn’t a coach in college football that understands schemes or sets up schemes for his players like Payton. Including Saban, who is the best CFB coach over, but Payton is on such a different level when it comes to schemes that fit his personnel.
Payton biggest issue was his ego, think8ng he could evaluate talent. As soon as he let that go, you see what has happen

There's really no comparing NFL to college. First of all, there is much less of a talent gap between players in the NFL. I mean, they're all really, really talented. So you're not likely to consistently have success by relying on talent alone. Secondly, NFL is a job. The players practice much more than college, they study more film, the coaches can work more with the players, basically they get more, and better coaching.
Having said all that, I have no idea where you heard Orgeron say blocking schemes don't matter. I seriously doubt he's ever said this.

I mean, I'm not expecting O to be Payton, but obviously he could learn a thing or two about how to scheme with his personnel from Payton.

I think college is way different than Pro. With PRO’s who is your QB’ is the QB right hand or left handed. Is he tall or short it’s he a mobile QB or pocket passer? Do you run an RPO, west coast, run heavy, or spread offense. You can go out and pay for the O lineman you need but with college it’s way different. a coach comes in almost every three to 4 yrs. what kind of offense does the old coach vs new coach run? Let look at LSU. Les miles ran a run heavy I formation offense so he basically recruited guards as tackles, where CEO wants a PRO spread, lets be honest I’m not sure what O wants. So LSU can’t just go out and buy offensive tackles that are good at pass protection (you can with a bagman). Most school have started recruiting a guy since freshman year where LSU is a little late for the party. I’m down for giving O one more yr. because now it will be his players, after three yrs it the new coaches team.
