Because he’s the only real coach we have.

Once you accept that as the fact that it is, you will stop with these stupid posts.

But we all know this is the narrative you Otards have been told to push by the Ponamski propaganda machine.

Aranda

His playcalling on 4th down was fricking abysmal

When Mond faced pressure, he panicked. So every single 4th down we only rush 3.

A&M was scoring TDs in the redzone 56% of the time during the reg season. They went 10/12 Sat night.

Aranda deserves alot of the blame

Just curious. He's getting paid head coach type money and has tons of talented players but our defense hasn't been great this year. Our defense couldn't make a stop at the end of regulation and then let A&M score in 7 OTs, yet you really don't see a ton of criticism. Our defense was lit up at times this year. Is it simply because we keep getting told that he's a defensive genius?

I'm just going to say I was talking about this stuff the day Aranda was given the raise.

That paying $2.5 million for him was NOT a good thing. It was desperate. It creates complicated layers of responsibility since amount of responsibility is usually tied to pay. It would be nearly impossible for him to be WORTH that much, because a$2.5 mil paycheck makes anything below a Top 3-5 defense a failure.

And, given O and fans penchant for needing to lay blame, it would be super unhealthy. It was a stupid decision that showed how much O relied on Aranda to even field a competent team. As a program we had no leverage against Aranda and O fell right into the trap. The entire situation was Leadership and Program Management 101 and O failed spectacularly. If everyone always did the most expensive thing every single time a problem came up....think about that.

That said, the game was not all Aranda's fault and trying to lay the whole thing at his feet is hilarious.

He got plenty blame from O. Did you see them on the sideline?

Dave Aranda is a top defensive coordinator and to say otherwise is just dumb; however, he was partly responsible for that loss how he played so soft to end the game. He also did not even attempt a pass rush on most of the OT downs which gave the WRs and Mond time to get open. Aranda had a bad last drive and OT but he's also the reason we've been in most games this year with a chance to win.

I would like to see a comparison of our defense before we hired Aranda to our defense now.
He gets a lot of praise because the defense is the strength of the team, but when has that ever not been the case?
Aren’t we almost always good on defense?

We shut them down for an entire half against a pretty solid A&M offense. Defense was the only reason we had a chance at the end.

They didn't make plays when they needed to. He had them in position to make plays and they didn't execute. Kary Vincent looked like toast at the end of the game. Alexander was torched at the end of the game. He can't play the game for them.

It was 17-7 Aggies...Aranda makes adjustments at half...defense completely dominates and LSU makes it 17-17 until Giles..who has looked shaky as return man from day one (but O sticks with him anyhow)...muffs punt ..and a dead tired Aggie defense gets off the hook and Arandas defense who just sat down has to get back up. That was the game right there in my opinion. Aranda will be here waaaay longer than shrimp boat captain.

Given the eay this thread is going, here we are:

quote:

It isn't a crazy thought. We set a new base on coordinators via our terrible coaching payment structure strategy. We overpaid, straight up, and they may have balked. It isn't about the $200k it's about the perception of a coach at that level.

And no one wants 2 $2.5 million coordinators on their books, but we set those terms up. The expectations are bigger, the margins on success are smaller. If he doesn't immediately continue being the #1 coordinator in the country, that's a huge problem because his salary is never going down.

To which Scoob replied:

quote:

Now that's a valid concern. At some point, we need to see a return on this salary. What happens if Fla has a better D, for half the price?
Can we justify this with 9-3?

You aren’t asking the right people. A&M hung 31 on us. Ran the ball right at us. And threw when they wanted.

Because at LSU all the pressure is constantly put on the defense. We had 2 chances to win the game on offense and both times we ran the ball 3 times and kicked it once on a punt and once on a fg

I don't understand why there are impossible expectations for him to be perfect just because they gave him more money.

He didn't ask for more money, they gave it to him because they were terrified of losing him to A&M. Now whenever the defense gives up a first down people start talking about his contract.
