Interesting perspective on the refs from the inside

My brother's best friend is an official in conference USA for about 10 years. He spoke to him today. He has had the opportunity to meet officials from all over the country and work with them at various camps, nfl summer workouts, etc. The 1st thing he said was to take note at how old all of their officials are. The reason behind that is they will not let anybody new in. The referees themselves consider the sec refs to be like a cult. They have little communication with the other associations ,and it is impossible to join their league. But here's the best part. They consistently rank the lowest amongst all the officials. The NFL very seldom pulls from the sec. They do not think that they are good officials at all. I'm no expert , But he is. And if he tells me that the consensus amongst all referees is that the SEC has bad officials, is clouded in secrecy , and refuses to let anyone join, I would ask who is really running this operation

He didn't see it because he was calling himself. But messages had already went around the circle about how bad it was.
He did say when they have their meetings they take clips from all the associations and watch them. And if it was really bad he said he will see it on film soon enough

44 is not old, however there aren't a lot like that period most are older. And I would be curious if he is moving up

Then why don’t you diplomatically start a conversation with him to corroborate some of the alleged facts presented by OP.
Key word is diplomatically so you don’t alert your corrupt podnuh.

Just another day at the office for SEC officials. They reflect the corrupt good old boy culture they come from.

Ok great. I think what he is saying is your friend isn't an SEC ref because of what he knew but because of who he knew.

FWIW, I heard someone who may or may not be associated with professional gambling say that college sports are notorious for having people paid off here and there. Refs and kickers in particular. Look at the dollars involved and ask yourself if people would always leave that to pure chance. Not my opinion, just what I was told. Numerous sports figures have been caught gambling. Taking bribes is one step away, and the leagues often try to bury this when it surfaces.

The problem is that there are no repercussions on the officials for shitty calls. There is nothing to keep them in check. The NCAA should be in the business for sanctioning refs. But they are a toothless organization for the most part. It's all about ratings and money.

Does your friend suck at his job too? If so, they might have let him in and ignored his age due to that.

If one can wager on it, book it, it is vulnerable to shenanigans in all shapes and sizes.

I've texted him a few times when we got cheated before. Usually goes like "who the frick was that referee? I want his home address!" he never responds.

I have a friend, now retired, who said pretty much the same thing, but yrs ago. Point being, this not a new issue by any means. He turned down a chance to get into the SEC through an uncle in the League office, more money and perks, but declined because of the reputation of "major influence" from the League office.

And where is the SEC office located?

I might know this guy you're talking about.
Is he from New Orleans?

Problem with this, and the crazy part, is LSU actually covered
