Sorry you lost your Dad, he was so young. I lost my Mom on Halloween, she was 95. I know you miss him, like I miss my Mom.

That’s horrible and I’m sorry to hear that. I’m scared for that day.

that is admirable. I've had family members who've suffered from alcoholism and I've had issues with it myself.. not ashamed to admit it.

My sincere condolences to you and your family.

We lost our daddy in '85 Christmas Eve night, he had the C also, and was only 58.

So very sorry for your loss. Good for him turning his life around. Many many don’t. Dwell on the good times you had. Our lives are gifts from God not to be taken for granted for a moment.

HC, I hope you find peace, he sounds like a man who turned his life around out of respect for his grandchild. That is such a great thing. eHugs to you, lady.

Me too, December 18th.

I’ve had more time without him now than with him.

Just wanted to send you some prayers from my way. My dad died just over a year ago, something I don't really talk much about, and after reading this really struck a cord. He was also a an alcoholic for most of my life.

Brilliant man, was a chemist at a plant, but when my folks divorced he just descended into the abyss with drinking and eventual homelessness. About three years ago he finally overcame everything and got his life on track. He was doing great, got his life together, had a full medical checkup due to worrying he destroyed his liver, but was in decent shape considering his hard living. Then one day I got that call that he had died at only 48 years old after suffering a heart attack. It took me a really, really long time to get through it, as during his homelessness I was in my junior/senior year of engineering at LSU and felt like I could have done more.

Just takes time, even the hardest losses will eventually let you be at peace within again.
