Anyone else surprised by this? I would of thought he was over 500 million with how often his characters have movies and how much money they bring in.

While Stan Lee was easily the world’s most famous comic book writer and editor, he might not be as rich as you’d imagine. Much is unknown about his finances, but Stan Lee’s net worth is often estimated at $50 million to $80 million.

Looked it up about a year ago and found the same info. I would have thought he was much, much richer but he sold most of his rights to everything I think.

Not bad for a comic book writer. But, with all the movies, tv shows, toys, etc. I would have thought he would have more money.

I've heard his name in the past, but will say that I'm not a comic guy.
I always find it odd that people never really talk about famous people, but when they die, everyone comes out crying/discussing them. It's like, where were y'all last week not knowing he was going to die soon?
Just my thoughts.

---To the OP---
Yeah pretty low considering, but he's like the OG back when creators werent making money. Like rock artist from that time. Or sports players. These guys laid the groundwork for all the pansies bitching and complaining today.

It is like when some old music star who hasn't been relevant in many years dies, everyone suddenly becomes die hard fans of that singer for a couple days.

Exactly. I just got up and usually suck at explaining my thought process, but yes, what you said.

He created those characters as a Marvel employee. He didn't own rights to them. The 50 to 80 million was essentially folks throwing him a bone.
I guess no one foresaw anything beyond comic book runs and Saturday morning cartoons back then.
