Wife (no pics)woke up this morning with extremely bad pain. She’s had pinched nerve problems before but this is bad. She’s probably leaning to the left at at least 50 degrees.
Any ideas?

Bullet. She’s had a good run.

Go see a doctor. I thought I had a pinched nerve about a month ago, and turns out I have a bulging disk between my C5/C6 that is pressing on my spinal cord. My only option is disc replacement.
Thanks for the premature disc degeneration US Army.

Doctors can usually take care of shite like this

Short term: Lyrica--it's for nerve pain.
Long term: MRI to find source of pain.

Pain in the hip? Any numbness or tingling running down her leg? I’ve been through three back surgeries because of issues at L4-L5 (“small of the back”). If either of those apply screw the middleman and get in to see a neurologist. If the pain is that severe they ought to get an MRI done. For my first surgery is was a really small incession and they simply shave the disc where it was pinching the nerve. It’s a really safe, minor procedure if you follow the recovery orders. I was back on campus a month after mine. Good Luck!

PIIHB. It will relieve her back pain instantly

shite. My doc thinks I have bulging disc between c4 & c5. Flares up time to time right now is no bueno. I’m putting it off as I can still play golf with no additional discomfort but I’ve already hit deductible for year and golf season is ending.
What did you get as timetable for recovery?

Prepare your wallet
Only way to know if it's a disk is to get an MRI, my last one was $1,500 and thanks to Obama it was all out of pocket.
I've battled lower back pain for 25 years it sucks

Got one at L4. Roid shot helped. They last me about a year and a half. Gets so bad, it will make me cry like a baby.

Typical nerve pain/sciatica is caused by the nerve being pressed on. Can be a bulging disc (most of the time) could be arthritic where the bone builds up around the nerve and chokes it. Either way it is the same result. The nerve acts like a wire/conductor and the pain will radiate either down the leg or arm depending on if it is cervical or lumbar in nature.
Steroids are typically a good first line of defense to calm the nerve and give relief. Someone mentioned Lyrica another option is a Neurontin (Gabapentin) which is cheaper. Along with this issue you typically will have muscular spasm which kind of amplifies the issue. Some type of muscle relaxer will help this.
Sounds like the wife slept wrong and this is most likely a temporary issue. If it persists, most likely an MRI followed by injections into the spine (epidural)to follow.

They will most likely try epidural steroid injections prior to surgery but these require an MRI and the procedure is done under anesthesia so it's about 4-5K all together. They may work but may not, I've had 7-8 of them over 20 years with mixed results.
If you've met your deductible tell your Dr you need to get it done before the end of the year.

That is a pinched nerve...

Or they can do a fusion. Disc replacement has a higher re-surgery rate so consult with a top notch orthopedic spine specialist or neurosurgeon before doing either.
