My buddy bought one of those DJI drones that comes with a camera for like $500. I guess they're getting special government prices

Hell yes i'm ready for that thing to hit the state surplus junk auction in a few yrs.

They should let that guy that said he saw bigfoot borrow it...

His records 1080 IIRC, but just not thermal. Video quality is pretty good good also. Just like every government organization, I still think they overpaid.
Eta: He didn't buy that exact drone. That would've been idiotic, because it's wasteful. He bought a DJI Phantom 3. It does 2.7K video

So he bought... A drone. That shares almost none of the abilities or features of this drone.
Stick to knuckles.

I have a friend that works in the commercial oyster industry and he was telling me about this. Apparently that price includes whatever training they have to have too and the drones would only be used along the coast. I think the oyster industry is donating money to help purchase them and didn't want them used all over LA.

Drones fly and take videos. This one just takes thermal in addition to flying and taking videos. Not a big difference

Go buy a nice scope.
Now go buy a nice THERMAL scope.
Compare prices and realize you're an idiot.

Isn’t it LEGAL to shoot down a drone if it’s over your land

Bigfoot May lose his World Champion Hide and Seek Title with this new thingy!

Just checked. You can get the setup I was talking about with a thermal camera for $6k

I participate in state bids and saw this on there site and laughed my arse off. I don’t know how two of them will be distributed across the state but we will see.
ETA: This bid has a training package in it as well. It will be far more than your expected price. Apparently we have a serious poaching problem that will result in far more than two drones.

I have learned that those foil looking heat blankets or survival blankets. Really put the screws to thermal imaging. been playing with mine to find out some ways to hide from it. Also a simple sheet of plywood will mask it good as well

quote:No. Landowners own the airspace from their minerals rights up to outer space. However, the FAA has an "eminent domain" of sorts to operate inside your airspace - without your permission. The FAA White Paper on airspace is pretty straightforward. The Fed is in control of ALL airspace. Locals have no control over the air. However, they do have control over the land and can pass limitations on where you can land and take off.

That said, hovering your drone for the purposes of getting an eyeful of your neighbor's scantily clad 18-year daughter would not be advisable.
